Stony Brook Nursing Basic BSN Fall 2013 applicants

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hey guys! So I just applied to the SBU Basic (2 year) program a couple of days ago. I thought it would be nice to start a forum. Feel free to ask any questions! And good luck to all who are applying!!!

Hi all,

I was just accepted for the fall. I also got into NYU but im finding the price tag to be a bit too much (is it worth it?). NYU does allow all students to accelerate through the summer as long as there is room, does anyone know if there is anyway to get through SBU faster without being in their accelerated program? Thanks in advance for any thoughts :-)

My GPA when I applied was 3.97 . And yes I had volunteer experience in two different hospitals. I also think recommendation letters helps a lot. I had 5 letters. one of them was from a clinician.

Hi All,

Did everyone already accepted SBU's offer? Also, does anyone still have to take the Group Theory class over the summer?

Hey everyone, congrats to everyone accepted!

I will be applying to stony brook 1 and 2 year programs next year and just have 2 questions for all you accepted.

If you don't mind me asking, what was your GPA in your science prereqs? And also, do any of you have volunteer experience in a medical setting? I heard that helps alot but since I work full-time its hard to find time to do that. i was wondering if it was considered like a requirement or just a recommendation for acceptance into the program.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Hi Yankees252411,

I have a 3.9 in my science prereqs. But with that being said, I repeated Chemistry. I was actually an SBU student for undergrad and took Chem there and didn't do so well in that class. After I graudated, I completed my Science prereqs. (along w/ chem) at a CUNY. My undergrad GPA was a 3.0. I didn't have any recent volunteer experience. Though it's been quite a view years since I've volunteered, I made sure I spoke about my experience in my personal statement like it was yesterday. It's not a requirement but it is recommended. I was in your situtation; working full-time didn't allow me to volunteer but, recent volunteer work will enchance your application.

At their information session, they explained that your personal statement is the most important part of your application. So I would advise you to give that your all so that they can get a feel for the kind of individual you are.

I got accepted! So excited, amazed and stoked!!!! Still can't believe it!

Hey Kris10Noel,

Do you have to take the Group Theory class over the summer?

Anyone out there still waiting to hear if they got accepted or not? I'm still waiting.

I am still waiting too chele118

im still waiting also!

I'm guessing that we either got in, or we are waitlisted. This is my third year in a row that I have applied to both the 1 year and 2 year programs. Last year, I made it to the waitlist for the 1 year, this year I got rejected to the 1 year, still waiting on 2 year. Hopefully tomorrow we will find out. Good luck!

Why do u think we wont be rejected?

Because I think they would have rejected us already. Everyone else got their responses on Thursday and Friday last week, and we're still waiting. Last year, when I was one of the last to hear, I was waitlisted. And a friend of mine who was one of the last to hear was accepted. :)

Hey Kris10Noel,

Do you have to take the Group Theory class over the summer?

I don't. I'm taking social psychology right now. That counts as the same.
