Moved to the NY Nursing Programs forum
bump --- i think this gets less traffic in the ny forum bc its so specific. is there a more general career forum you can put this in?
and this is not a nursing "program" as in education, its more employment...please relocate

I know this is kinda dated, but I am currently in their residency program. It's a very good one, helps transition from student to professional nurse.

Hi Paco,
Congratz on your new job. I would like to know more about the SB residency program. what is the criteria and how can we apply for it?

Basically, if you are a new grad or new RN with a BSN and have not worked as a grad nurse or RN elsewhere, you are automatically placed in the residency program if you are hired to work at Stony Brook. That's it! You don't apply for the residency program per se, it's automatic if you're hired with the criteria I mentioned above. I believe you have to have earned your BSN within the last year or two as well, not sure exact timeframe. You don't have to be a graduate of Stony Brook's nursing program either. We have grads from other NY nursing schools and even some from other states like PA and VA. You just have to get the job first to get in.
thank you.

I know this is an older post but I have a question about getting hired as a new grad at Stony Brook.
Actually that's the question, how do I go about getting a job at Stony Brook? When I look up careers at stony brook they give me jobs for RN's that have experience. I still have schooling to go through (about 2 years) but I just want to be ready.
Thank you in advance!

Stony Brook hires many new grads. However, you will be most lucky in getting a job by accepting a position working nights on a med-surg unit. Those openings are far more common than in specialty units, which actually tend to favor transfers from within. All you have to do is send your cover letter and resume to HR, that is what most people do. Most of these new grad openings are not usually posted I think. I seem to recall there being a career fair at the hospital every year around March, an event that invites new grads to meet with different units in the hospital in one place. Not sure if they still do it tho.
