Stony Brook Accelerated BSN class of 2013

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hey all! Just wanted to lend my support to anyone else who is applying to SB next summer! It's a grueling process :-)):yeah:

Hello I looked at Stony Brook's website and it says the application cycle for 2012 is closed but doesn't say when the 2013 cycle will open? Does anyone know when the application will open and how long do we usually have to fill out an application?

I believe it opens around early September and closes mid November or so.. However the personal statement questions do not change so you have ample time to think about how you want to answer your questions and also to think about who you want to write your reference letters.

Those of you who live in NY. Did you fulfill your pre-reqs all at one school or does it not matter? Also I would like to take pharmacology and pathophysiology courses as well. Anyone know what schools offer those.

Hey paco69 I heard on the online forums that pathophysiology and pharmocology is very difficult and it scares me. What did you do to prepare for those classes?

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

Does not matter. I completed my prereqs at two different schools due to the fact that I moved. What's most important is that you completed the courses with decent grades (and presumably that the school you attended is duly accredited). By the same token, community college or 4-year does not matter either.

I'm taking both right now (although @ Stony Brook it's called just Pathology). Path is not that difficult a course, they do a good job of teaching it and tests are very fair provided you study. So for a lot of what I am learning is repeat from A&P and micro (with some new things added in). Pharm on the other hand can be a nightmare if you don't keep up. Pharm is historically the WORST course you will ever take in any nursing school.

In fact, I SHOULD be studying pharm right now, so that's what I am going to do ... :D ... bye!

I agree with Paco about not knowing what the nursing school is looking for in candidates. It seems that everyone has different strengths. I am probably one of the younger getting in (I am currently in my senior year finishing my first bachelor's in Psychology with a minor in spanish). For myself I have an excellent GPA and got A's in all of the prereqs. I also poured my heart into my personal statement (drafted many MANY times ! lol) which I think was one of my strongest aspects of my application. I know I got solid recommendations, but not from anyone in the medical profession. One was from my A&P professor who recommended me to tutor for the course, the other my Micro professor, and the last was non-medical ( a Boss from a day camp I worked at for years). I have had lots of volunteer experience through my national sorority, but nothing that was in a medical setting. Considering I am still a student, I am a different type of applicant to be accepted. It shows that SB accepts a wide variety of applicants!

Anyone else get accepted from here? seems like we're at a halt...

I'm still waiting to hear something too!! I have a feeling they are waiting for people to either decline or not respond in the time frame given and then they can offer to us. I hope a few more spots open up for us. Good luck!

Hey guys, i called admissions and they said in less than 2 weeks we would here back. This is painful :-(

Hi everyone, just wanted to wish those who have not yet heard good luck! I can't believe you're still waiting, I don't even want to imagine how anxious you are. I hope to see your faces this summer!

Lol yup super anxious. Thank you so much for ur support !! Hope to see you all this summer !! ;)

Hey guys, I'm new to this chat. I got accepted into the program about a week ago. I wish all of you still waiting the best of luck!
