Stony Brook Accelerated BSN class of 2013

U.S.A. New York

Hey all! Just wanted to lend my support to anyone else who is applying to SB next summer! It's a grueling process :-)):yeah:

Thank u Paco, xxooChele! I am with you!! Hopefully dear!!

Does anyone have ANY idea as to when the 2-year decisions go out??

Hey all!

I did not get in as well...took a few days for me to write on here...kind of disbelief. Last year SBU was my only application and did not get in (obviously). I honestly did think I had a decent chance of getting in this year, one reason was because I was one of the last people to get an answer last year, and I thought that meant I was being considered, but lost out to others accepting their spots (I applied a few weeks before the deadline last year). My own theory is that they have groups of students in priority order which they offer spots to and then put a certain amount on the waitlist after they get initial acceptances. But that is just a theory. I thought after the rejection last year that maybe I wasn't meant to do this or that it was a sign to stop moving forward, but after a few weeks of soul searching, I decided to grab the bull by the horns and continue on taking more classes and preparing for my back up school- Adelphi. I thought the program would be ok at least although very very expensive. My dream has been SBU, and initially I felt that if I wanted to get into nursing that I should go to the best school for it as I had done in my previous career, (for Fashion Design, I wouldn't have gone anywhere but FIT). I wish SBU worked out, but I will have to suck it up and find a way to shine at Adelphi and hopefully I will be able to work at SBUH one day even if I can not attend school there.

cakums and amchugh209--I also live within 5 minutes from SBU, moved here with the hopes of going to SBU and having support family nearby. I have 2 children as well. If you have any questions about Adelphi, I have learned quite a bit going through the process there-let me know, maybe we can even meet up for coffee to discuss.

Not looking forward to the commute, I am starting classes tomorrow- Pathophysiology, Informatics in Nursing and Dev. Psych- I have to complete these before I can do the full nursing program/clinicals. I have an interview for their accelerated program in a coupld of weeks, so hopefully I can get into that rather than doing the 2 year.

Best of luck to all who have been accepted, those waiting...and those who are dealing with the rejection and planning their next steps. Perserverance...the journey is even more important than the end goal, it makes us stronger, right? If you want it, it will happen- maybe just not in the way you expected.

Joie/chele- I hope you hear soon!!!

Paco- I hope to work in the NICU with you soon at SBUH!!! Good luck finishing the program!

Hey anniet, thank you for your words. Wishing you all the best in future ahead. Stay strong xo

So, for those of you who applied to the two-year program, do you remember when you found out last year?

I applied to programs in the city because it's where I live. Applied to SUNY Downstate and CUNY Hunter.

Emer,

I know you said you applied to Hunter as well. Have you heard anything about which program has the better reputation? Especially in terms of getting a job after graduation.

Thanks Paco:) Your comments have been so helpful! I'm sure at some point in the forum you mentioned this, but I wanted to know if you could describe what your days are like (times, classes) in the summer and up until now? Just to get a feel for the schedule! How soon after accepting did you have to make payments, order books, make schedule, and all of that? Also I am someone looking into housing! I am not sure if you are living on campus/off campus, do you happen to know of the options available for 1 year students?

Emer,

I know you said you applied to Hunter as well. Have you heard anything about which program has the better reputation? Especially in terms of getting a job after graduation.

Hunter has a GREAT program as well which given their prices makes it VERY difficult to get in. As far as reputation goes it takes the #1 spot from CUNY's, but again very difficult to get in. I wont hear from them until probably May (that's when i got their denial last year).

Nobody applied to the two year??

I applied to the 2 year last year and this year. I don't remember when I was notified of their decision. Maybe late March or early April. I'm still waiting to hear about the 1 year.

Hey accepteds! Congratulations! I had posted a few pages back asking if any of you would share their personal statement so that I could see what a successful student's looked like. Is anyone willing? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Hey guys!

i am new to the thread and i wish i wasnt! asking you guys questions throughout this process really would have helped. I have a friend who applied to the program with me and was rejected but, i still have not heard.....and like much of you im freaking out! I really hope that we hear soon. Congrats to all that were accepted! :)
