  1. Hey guys! I wish you all the best of luck. Just a little word of advice apply to the 2 year program as well if you have the extra classes. I was placed on the alternate list for the accelerated as well, but got into the 2 year program. I also know of people denied from the 2 yr that got into the 1 yr. so really no rhyme or reason lol. Just do your very best. :)
  2. Prospective, I was placed as an alternate in the one year program, but i was accepted to the two year. I have my first degree from Ithaca college and i have a 3.6 in Business communications. I have a 4.0 in all my prerqs that i took at suffolk community college. my Refrences were from my Volunteer Supervisor in the ER, My mentor who was a wound care nurse and in nursing admin in cali, and someone that i worked closely with in social work. I held nothing back in my personal statement, it really helps for the admission process and for you to sit for a min and determine exactly why u want to be a nurse and then just pour it out on the page. I talked about how i went from communications to finding out that i wanted to be a nurse. i talked alot about my experiences in the ER. I think this helped alot because it showed that i was putting my passion into action(you could walk the walk so to speak.) and i talked about my personal experience with my grandfather. i agree personal statement and references speak volumes. grades certainly help but that is not all they are looking for. Alot of us wrote out our backgrounds at the beginning of this blog. there is also a blog called stony brook 2013 that has alot of info. i read throught them all trying to get the best idea possible on how to go about the applciation process. Good luck to you!
  3. Page name is :Stony Brook University School of Nursing Class of 2014
  4. Yes! we can do it! :) go to the fb page thats private Someone posted last yrs schedule almost the same!
  5. BioD! I found some helpful info on one of the blogs from 2009(i am a allnurses stalker at this point!lol). It might not be the same for us but it sounds like things might still be the same because the schedule leaves for thurs off for clinical which is what buckaroo said they did for them this past yr. She said her schedule was class Mon- 9-4 tues- 9-6 Wed-1-3 Thurs you have the option to take ur clinical as buckaroo laid out on our stony brook 2012 thread Fri- later in the yr we have class from 10-12 Hope this helps...and its close to what our schedule will be like.
  6. I am lucky enough to have the same situation. i can even put in a bunch of little hours here and there spread out across the week, but the job is in the hrs of 9 to 5. so if that is when class and clinic are all week i might have an issue. Also does anyone take the train to and from campus. If so do you find it accomodating?
  7. BioD i would also love to know the answer to that! Anyone that is in the 2 year. Is there a time frame when the classes and clinic are held typically?
  8. When i emailed the coordinator a while back she said "Tentatively the orientation dates are August 23 & 24." and that we will find out about malpractice insurance etc. I think i posted all the info she gave me on page 33 or 34 of this blog. :)
  9. I was wondering/worrying lol if it is possible to work part time and do the 2 yr program. Can anyone that is in the program shed some light on how the normal schedule goes? When classes are typically and when they offer clinic?
  10. Kitkats i was accepted into the 2 year and placed on the alternate list for the 1yr
  11. nope i have not gotten anything by mail
  12. Butterfly, we have a 2 yr program page called Stony Brook BSN 2012 go there and you will see all the answers to your questions :)
  13. If there is anyone still waiting on the 2 year or is on the waitlist. I know of someone giving up their spot. Hang in there!
  14. found it and nevermind i think you need to register if you need fin aid as well. good looking out guys! "we encourage all west campus students who have been admitted to hsc to advance register for a temporary 12 credit course for the fall semester. this will allow hsc to maintain your matriculation, post tuition charges, process financial aid, and allow you to participate in housing selection. during your hsc orientation program you will be notified to drop this temporary 12 credit course and add the appropriate courses to your hsc degree program. to enroll in the temporary 12 credit course: if you accepted the offer of admission to the school of nursing, enroll in: hni 498, section 01, 12 credits"
