still unemployed and still frustrated!

Hello! I am a new grad and I have been out of school for a few months. I have been actively searching for a LPN position- and when i say actively, I mean I am going out for 4 to 5 hours a day and am online every night looking through online ads and writing cover letters for the following day. I do this 5 days/7 nights a week. It is all so very frustrating and tiring and I am beginning to lose all hope. I have redone my resume and have had a few professionals look at it and they say it looks great. I want to say out of the prob 120 resumes i have sent out, online and walking into places, I have only had one call back which lead to an interview which lead to not hearing back for the position after a month(and yes I sent a handwritten thank you card immediatley afterwards- And yes, the lady said it looked good for me, but obviously it was looking better for soemoen else~!). I call back the places I walk into, some say if you meet the qualifications a manager will call YOU, others put you through to the persons VM- and they never call back and if i call them once more i may get a stalking charge lol. But all joking aside, someone please tell me what I am doing wrong or what I am missing? I would greatly appreciate it!

There are only about 30 some odd RN jobs where I work. I dunno where you guys are but there is a shortage where I am.

Texas is hiring - almost anywhere in the state. I am in the DFW area and you can find a job most anywhere IF you're willing to work in whatever unit they have available.....

Really? But are they hiring new grads or just experienced RNs? Where I am in the east coast, I know many new grads without jobs. I went to a job fair a few weeks ago, where there were major big and small hospitals, and none were hiring nurses without at least 1-2 yrs acute care experience. The nurse recruiters just kept telling groups of new and recent grads that the market was bad now, and to 'hang in there'. But they didn't think the situation would improve any time soon.

I finally got a job- FINALLY! started a few weeks ago- not hands on nursing but it does have its pros- and the obvious con. But I am happy and really liking this area of nursing. Keep looking and think out of the box everyone- Get your name out and let the job/HR find you. Its how I got this job! Good luck!

You can try going back to your school which usually has a person that gives you places to apply. If you haven't gotten your IV/Blood Drawing certification or other extra certification you can put with your card then do them because it'll help.

Congratulations! to you and good luck!! I have a job interview tomorrow at a home health agency which I did work in one for 7 yrs so I am excited just about the fact that I may have a job!!

The risk is that people like New Jersey nurse Rachel Lynn will stop believing the overheated promises regarding her job prospects and decide to change careers, which could undo some of the recent progress in addressing the nursing shortage. That could eventually leave the workforce even thinner than it was before the downturn.

I might be one of those people just giving up. I got rent and bills to pay. I also may have a government job offer that pays just as much as entry level nursing position with better benefits. One month paid vacation after six months to boot.

I'm going with the highest bidder now. I've put enough of my life on hold and have been tortured enough just getting the degree.

Me 4! same here. Fortunately I didn't quit my non-nursing job, I still have regular income coming in to pay all the bills. - North New Jersey

I'm still looking for a nursing job. While searching for Nursing Jobs, should I be working in a non-nursing job position? I need the money and don't want to depend on anyone. Thank you.

Absolutely, I'd do whatever work necessary to keep money coming in. Good luck.

I'm on the same shoes. Been submitting applications to different places. Actually, I don't remember even the jobs I've applied. Been a USRN here since Nov 09 and had been actively looking for a job. I'll be having a job interview at a very reputable facility near my town this coming Feb 15. I pray this would be it. I badly need a job! Let's just hang in there and not give up! Keep the fighting spirit alive! :)

my hospital is phasing out LPN/LVNs and encouraging the current ones to go for the RN. I dont even think they hire LVNs anymore here. I dont see any current open positions thru my work site. I am not sure how it is around you but I have noticed here that home health places and nursing homes still use LVNs often. Not sure what area you are looking for but at least it will start you with experience and then you can try your Job Search again with experience.

i have been looking everywhere and so far no luck i though nurses were in demand but i guess not because people don't believe me when i tell them i can't find a job. anyway good luck to all the unemployed new graduate nurses i hope well all finds jobs soon!!!!!!!
