Still jobs for new grads/ADNs?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there are still jobs for new grads/ADNs in North Dakota? Are there still a lot of jobs available there in general?

I saw an article (I think it was wallet hub) that stated that North Dakota has enormous amounts of competition and a large amount of nurses per capita. How is it that it is a good state for new grads considering this information in the article? Would you say that it is true or false that new grad/ADNs will have an easy time finding jobs?

I thought I read the opposite on this forum. I think there was a previous poster that moved from the south to get a very well paying job at St Alexius.

ND nurse here,

After trying to get into the ICU for 7 years I decided to leave NYC. I started to apply to all ICU jobs in every state and was called the same day I applied to hospitals in ND. I was hired in the ICU from a telephone interview and given a chance to follow my dreams. Fellow USA nurses leave your home state if you can't get a job in your dream department. I live in ND now and I see so many nursing students getting practicums and jobs in the departments they want without any fuss. I also see many new grads getting hired in the ER, PCU & OR.

I was a BSN with a 3.3GPA and couldn't get an interview in NYC. I love NY & NYC but I love myself more. If you can't get the position of your dreams in your home state apply to hospitals in Minot, Bismarck or Fargo. 1 year goes by fast and before you know it you will be back home.

I'm sure most people are already doing this, but go to the job site indeed, use the advanced search option and use the keywords "new graduate registered nurse" leaving everything else blank. After reading about the dearth of new grad jobs I started panicking about my decision, but there were hundreds upon hundreds of ads that at least said " new grads welcome" !

You could see some states had many more openings than others, and personally I can't wait to get out of my hometown, few places are snowier than Syracuse NY ! I was a Realtor in FL when the market was good and I promised my husband ( that's where we met) that we would go back but that he was going to have to be patient through 2 yrs of NS and then 1 yr of wherever they would hire me, and THEN we would go back to the beach in style !

Last year I moved from Florida to Bismarck, ND. I was hired as a new grad with just a phone interview. Our hospital is always short staffed. The turn over rate is high. You might not be able to pick which unit you want to work on but I'm sure they would allow you to transfer units if needed. I've heard TCU and Medsurg are always looking. Mom/baby is probably looking too. We just hired 3 new grads to L&D. My advice would be to call human resources and speak with the hiring manager. Everyone is super friendly up here and I'm sure they wouldn't mind answering your questions.

Fargo North Dakota is still hiring new grads. In fact they're still short on nurses.
