stethoscope question

Published

I just started a new job in labor and delivery/recovery/postpartum. I need to get a new stethoscope. I was wondering, can I use an infant sized stethoscope for listening to the mom’s lungs/heart??? I was hoping I could just get the infant one to use for both baby and mom. Please let me know your thoughts ASAP! Thanks!!

I have one for mom and one for baby. However in a pinch ill use my baby one on mom.

A baby stethoscope is not really ideal for listening to an adult's heart and lungs. I used an adult for mom and baby when I worked postpartum for that reason, even though my neck would have loved to carry the lighter baby stethoscope around instead ?

I use my adult sized scope for mom and baby. I'm HoH and require an amplified electronic stethoscope, which doesnt come in pedi or infant size.

It has not impacted my ability to assess newborns. I've been in nursery/ NICU/postpartum/L&D for 6.5 years.

I have a Littman (I forget which series) but it has both Mom and infant on it, I just turn it and flip to the large or small size depending on if I’m listening to Mom or baby.
