I'm a new grad who will be working on the ortho unit of one of the area hospitals. Throughout nursing school and the 1st month of orientation I have been using my MDF acoustica. During school I noticed that I had a hard time hearing lung sounds and sometimes heart sounds but now that I'm working as a full time nurse its starting to interfere with my assessments. Do you have any recommendations for stethoscopes for an ortho nurse?

Can't go wrong with a Littmann Sthetoscope. Just look over the reviews of each, many people has used their stethoscope for years and still works well

MDF MD One. I've never used the Acoustica, so I don't know how it compares to that. In nursing school, I had a "bookstore" stethoscope and after I lost that one at a clinical a "hospital quality" stethoscope from Wal-Mart. I love the MD One and I felt like I could hear everything I was missing in the first half of nursing school. I've used coworkers Litmann Classic stethoscopes and think the quality of the MD One is better.

I am a 2nd yr nursing student, and a Nurse tech at a LTC. I have been a CNA for a few years as well and just used a cheep sprague for Bp's. I do use my stethoscope a lot. I bought a littmann classic that I love, it is such a step up! I had someone (my grandmother) buy me a fancy littmann cardiology with adjustable bell. So basically the harder you press the sound changes. I have a really hard time with it. I don't care for it. Several of my classmates have tried it out as well. It is a bit hard to use because their isn't a consistent sound, it just depends on pressure. Plus the classic is a lite weight one that is super comfortable. So I guess thats my opinion. Hope it helps.
