Staying healthy and fit in nursing school

Published

Hi all,

I'm currently in nursing school and I'm noticing my pants are becoming a little snug! Any tips from other students on how exactly they have stayed fit and healthy during the craziness of nursing school? Feel free to share quick recipes, teas, herbs and work out routines!

Thanks you guys!

Better stay fit for nursing,, 12 hours is hard on your feet when you start working... at least go walking daily and you can listen to you lecture notes you recorded while you do it....if you'll just do 30 push ups, 30 sit up, 30 squats, 30 bend over and touch your toes every night before you go to bed,, you'll be fit, and do your walking at least twice a week...... stay off the sandwiches. what you could also do is join a martial arts club, get fit, have fun, and learn to protect yourself better.

How about we do a challenge!!! I'm looking for a good support group. I started only last week. I was 164.4 and yesterday I weighed in at 162.4, I've been working out the times a week on my treadmill, utilizing daily burn maybe twice a week and I'm creeping slowly into yoga. I'm using Noom weight loss app and I drink plenty water. I do watch what I eat during the week and I indulge a little on the weekends. what do you guys think?

I'd be up for that. I lost a lot of weight a couple years ago and have gained back a few pounds during this first quarter. :(

You know, I've been thinking about getting one of those mail order meal things like Plated, HelloFresh, Schwans or something of that nature where it's delivery and either easy to cook or already made. The costs are just soooo high! The amount HelloFresh and Plated charge for to feed my husband and I two meals a day for five days is almost what I would pay for two weeks of 3 "or so" meals and snacks.

But it's so convenient...

But it's so expensive...

I have ADHD so staying moving isn't really a problem so much as being still is.

1. I walk around the floor during the five or so minute bathroom breaks we get during lecture. Our prof made the mistake of giving us 15 minutes once and I swear, it was like recess for me.

2. I take a 5-10 minute movement break for every 45 minutes of studying. I recommend looking into the pomodoro method for study breaks. For 10 minute workouts, I use Neila Rey. She has a slew of suggestions for "office workouts" that can be amended for the library and other public facilities. I also use a stretching workout that I found after googling "best stretches for students"

3. I do most of my at home studying at a standing desk. I also have a balance board.

4. I try to work out 30-45 minutes 6 days a week but normally only work out maybe 2 days a week.

But, as stated before, I have horrible ADHD and I take the bare minimum dosage to control it. I can't not move so studying while in motion is my preferred methodology. I've met one other person that can do science and math based classes with a standing desk and balance board and they also have horrible ADHD. If you use flashcards, you can try pacing while reviewing them and, if you don't get heinous motion sickness and have some books that don't weigh 194.65 lbs each, try pacing and reading.

There's a good deal of research to support better learning while moving.

So how are you guys doing? I visited my dad over spring break and drank too many hard ciders and ate too many chips! I'm now 10 pounds above where I want to be BUT I have also started tracking my eating again in MyFitnessPal and I went on long walks the last two mornings. I track my outdoor exercise with RunKeeper and it plugs it right into MFP for me. Super easy. I'm also committing to cooking more of my meals from Skinnytaste. I love that site and use the recipes often anyway, so that won't be hard. Anyone else jumped back on the wagon yet?

I also need to get back into doing some core work. Since I stopped, I get back pain from work almost all the time. :(
