*** You will find exactly what you are looking for in Wisconsin. Pretty good pay, very low cost of living, VERY safe, low crime state, friendly people. I suggest Madison. It's a very liberal modern thinking town where I think you and you skills would be very welcome. Four decent sized hospitals, University of Wisconsin Hospital - large teaching hospital on the cutting edge, St. Mary's - Nice catholic non-profit great L&D unit, Meriter - medium sized community hospital with the highest pay in town and good working conditions, VA hospital - 82 bed, a little lower pay but great benifits.

I have class mates from nursing school working in each of these and have heard nothing bad about any of them. Starting pay for new grads is $24 - $27 hour base not including differentials.

California is huge, almost everything is there. Lots of places to go to and pay is high but cost of living is pretty high too. It's tempting to work in a city where alot of celebrities are but maybe not. Sorry but I think I prefer not working with alot of Filipinos. Sometimes they are your worst nightmare in the US because they bring with them the poor Filipino habits they have like gossiping, back stabbing... I grew up in Nevada and prefer Caucasian friends but Reno is growing fast as well. My ex-boyfriend bought a brand new house in the early 90's for 140thousand dollars and is now going for 300+, it used to be a good neighborhood but now it's not. Houses are really expensive now but buy one, it's one great investment. I'm thinking of working in Alaska or Seattle, Washington (thanks to Grey's Anatomy haha) because I like the weather and I'm reading alot about it now. My number one priority is the safety of my kids and their growing environment, that is why I'm so willing to leave my life in the Philippines. Goodluck to you. Most cities have bad and good neighborhoods. You'll just have to pay a little bit more to live in safer places. Avoid neighborhoods with a lot of Blacks and Mexicans as the crime rate is high. But ofcourse, in any race there are the good ones and the rotten ones. It's just that back in the early 90's we lived in Sparks, Nevada, about 4 blocks away from Sutro where alot of Blacks and Mexicans lived. My friend lived in that type of neighborhood and every now and then someone knocks on her door to sell stereos, and other must be stolen stuff. We had a Mexican neighbor and one day someone broke into our house and stole alot of stuff, the cops came and got fingerprints but because most of these people are not legal, their prints are not in the database. But it could only be our neighbor because they used the back entrance which is exclusive to him and us. So we moved to a better neighborhood. A couple of times that we moved, we could even leave our door unlocked and no one would be messing with your house. Often times, there are even packages left at the door and no one takes them or opens them. When my sister bought her new home last year, she also avoided the places where Mexicans lived.. no offense, I have some good Mexican friends but some can be loud (yes, playing their Mexican music really loud and acting inappropriately).. just my advice because you are looking for a safe place to raise your kids. You'll find websites when you're looking for a home that shows crime level, the type of people that live around you, and income status, perhaps that should help. Might be good to find similar pay as yours or higher. Most downtowns are not safe so stay away from them.

Any large city in any state will give you what you need in terms of diversity or pay.

When you average pay with cost of living TEXAS nurses take home the most money.

Consider:

1. Indianapolis, Indiana

2. Cincinnati, Ohio,

3. Madison,Wisconsin

4. Austin, Texas

5. Dallas/Fort Worth Texas (though watch out for Group One)
