It's true. The Royal Alexandra Hospital has the busiest ER in the country. People who work there refer to it affectionately as the Pit. The population served is largely that of the inner city. There are many traumas, gunshot wounds, stabbings, precipitous labours, sexual assaults and drug overdoses seen there. The pace can be hectic and the clientele unpredictable. I know several people who work there and they love it. Their security staff is very quick to respond when necessary and the Edmonton Plice Service has a constable assignment in place. Not all the clients are "bad guys" as there are many immigrant families and elderly in the area as well.

RAH ER. Good times for sure.

Stabbings and the odd shooting (and I do mean odd) on Fridays and Saturdays. Plus the hunting "accidents".

You also get a lot of everyday ER stuff. The EMS brings most of their northside mva's and home calls in if they are on the northside of the river.

[color=olive]thank you ever so much....silverdragon102,fiona59 and janfrn...as i said we will be moving there in early march with my 2 year old daughter and my wife who was accepted to work in gynae department....is edmonton a nice place to rear a child? i've been reading some articles and they said crime rate is increasing in edmonton....is that true?....thanks for all your response and it really is very helpful especially to us the newcomers....good day!

Just one silly question...peeps...what is the uniform used in canada? i mean, do you wear scrubs even in the wards? or only in ER? Here in the uk, we wear color coded uniform...thanks!

If you do a search there are a few threads regarding uniform on wards in Canada and if I remember rightly it is scrubs.

Not sure which country you are coming from be bring plenty of warm clothes as will still be winter and if I remember rightly still getting snow in May. I know we was over in Nova Scotia. Had our first snow storm of this winter last night, lost internet for several hours as we are on satellite but the dogs love it
