Hey guys, was wondering if anyone can tell me what average starting wage for an rn in columbus ohio is? Thinking about moving there after school and just wanted some first hand knowledge. Thanks.

keep in mind.. Columbus Ohio is Saturated with nursing schools.. new grads are having a VERY difficult time finding jobs.

Experienced Nurses have better luck.... Most employment ads I see are for experienced nurses in the specific area they are hiring for.

For example; I recently saw an ad For Hospice nurses that required 3 years experience in Hospice.

Hospitals get many many applications so it is almost like playing the lottery for a chance to even get your application seen by a Hiring manager.

The cost of living in columbus is decent.. but remember Columbus addresses mean CITY of columbus. You do NOT want to live in the city of columbus.. especially if you have children. There is a major crime/gang problem, and the city schools are awful. ( Residents of Columbus have a nickname for the city... "Killumbus")

If you are interested in moving to the columbus area do your research, there are many suburbs but not all of them are "decent". Westerville, Worthington and Dublin are the best, but be careful.. sometimes a westerville address will be in areas that are close enough to columbus that you get the overflow of "trash".

There are many apartments located in the suburbs but do your research .. some complexes are riddled with crime.

I have been a columbus resident for almost 20 years.... This summer we will be moving out of the city "finally" and, once my RN is complete we will be leaving the state.

I have never heard "Killumbus". I live in the city-- never had any problems with crime. It certainly is safer than many places out in the country such as Pataskala. What I mean, actually is that the rural areas are not rife with violent crime, but they do have a higher per capita rate of break ins due to stretched police forces. Also, they do have a higher auto accident rate. Those county roads can be quite dangerous! But, like anywhere you have to do your research. There are some parts of the city that are perfectly safe and some that are, well, a lot less so (I don't really like the term "trash" though).

I graduated from Capital University in Columbus but have never heard of that RN residency program. What is the purpose of it? Work toward a graduate program?

Dam that's a lot, I think it time for your family and you to move out of Florida cause that state Is outrageous when it come to living out there lolo.
