Starting 1st job and pregnant

i am very excited to be starting this new job. of course, i am still waiting for the board of nursing to make me eligible to sit for the boards. they are very backed up. this floor is a tele floor. i am thrilled to work there, i think i will learn so much. my nurse manager is aware of the fact that i am pregnant and am due at the end of september. she was very encouraging as far as starting now. she said the same as i thought, why wait? especially since i plan on returning 6-8 wks after i have the baby. my issue is that i haven't sat for the boards yet and am thinking that it will be at least another 3 wks before i am able to. i am not going to start up there until i get my license so by the time i start i will probably only get thru the 6wks of orientation and maybe a wk or 2 before i have the baby. i know this is not much time on the floor but there isn't much i can do. i was hoping someone had advice for me.

Just go with the flow. Pass your boards first then worry about the other stuff. When you get off maternity leave you can pick up where you left off. Good Luck to you!

good luck with boards. and take care of yourself and baby. when your done with nclex take your time at work, dont want you to go into early labor. they cant discriminate you for being pregnant so if it gets tough let your manager know. when you come back you should be fine too. just keep with the continuity of training and you should be a great nurse. it will be diffuclt juggaling mama-baby time and learning to be a new RN, but with supportive partner/family/friends and of course manager/unit you shoud be fine! good luck!

I finally, after over 6 months of searching for a job after graduating and passing boards, have a job offer. Just after I find out I am pregnant, I get 2 job offers!!! I am starting my 8th week of pregnancy. I don't feel good at all for half of the day. I am very queasy. No vomiting, but very nauseous. I was offered a great job, but it is on nights. Ugh. Could this get any more challenging? So I have to take this job so I can get some experience. I feel like I am going to crumble working nights full time. This is my first pregnancy, so I have no idea what to expect. Will I be less tired soon? Will the job get really mad when they find out I am pregnant? Will my new coworkers think I am a scumbag for this? I am a new grad nurse. I am a newly pregnant first time mom. I am really scared. I feel very vulnerable. Please help me with any suggestions or experience.

I dont think theyll get "mad" at you, you are a human, a woman - not a robot whose life revolves around that job. I think that it would be good to let them know sooner than later- whenever your ready of course- so that you can have help when doing activities that could potentially harm you or your baby( certain precautions. But dont get yourself all stressed out about it because its not a healthy level of stress. You are still early on but they may work with you more than you think. Lets face it, its not something you can hide for very long lol Good luck and try to enjoy, it really is a wonderful time in life - even though it is all new and scary!
