Team nursing
Hi, I work on a tele/cardiac stepdown unit and there is a rumor that we might be going from primary nursing with 4-5 patients to team nursing. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions about this. I mean, I am still on orientation and trying to get used to being a nurse, and now they might switch to team nursing. So, has anyone done both and like one more then the other? After listening to how it would work it doesn't seem so bad, but a lot of the nurses on my floor are absolutely against it. Any thoughts?

Orientation question/amt of days a wk
hi all. thank you for responding to my post. i worked today and it went really well. i only had two patients and i felt the day went smooth. i fully understand that this will not be typical of all my shifts but still, i felt good today. i voiced my concern about the amt of time i will orient and my main preceptor said that it is up to me and that i could extend my orientation at the end if i don't feel ready. i really don't want to be the only one out of the four of us that will request that though. so, i told her that i would finish the schedule the way it is thru christmas and see how i feel and if need be i will plug myself in more throughout the remainder of my orientation. she agreed that it sounded like a good idea so, i guess that is what i will do. it is so stressful trying to balance kids and work. i am so envious of those nurses that do not have to worry about that. i mean don't get me wrong, i obviously love my children, i just beat myself up over not getting my degree/license right out of high school!!!! oh well, it is what it is. anyway thanks for all the replies, and if there is any more opinions out there that would be great!

Orientation question/amt of days a wk
hi everyone! i am finally starting my new position on a busy cardiac tele floor. my first day on orientation was yesterday. it went fine, basically i was just dusting off the rust since i haven't had patient care since my last day of clinicals in april. it did seem a little overwhelming as far as charting everything and remembering things but not yet like i wanted to cry. but that was only two patients. i think i am going to have two again the next time and work my way to four patients. when i get off of orientation i will be working 3-1130 and have 4-5 patients. i am doing days and evening orientation. my question is this: i get 6 wks of orientation. i will be with a few different people who will train me. i really don't think that is ideal, but this is how the floor does things. i will be working half time, which is 40hrs in two weeks so....three days one wk and two the next to equal 40hrs. this is what they are scheduling me. they gave me the option of orienting more. at first i said yes and they put me on a half time schedule anyway. when they were making out the next one for the remainder of the six wks, i told her that i would stick to half time hours. this works ideally for me as i have two small children and it is not exactly easy to get a babysitter for me. but i am worried that it is not enough time. a friend of mine oriented 4x/wk 3-eight hour shifts and 1-12hr shift, but this was for the er so i am sure that was needed. what do you think? my thought was if it was not ok to do it this way they wouldn't have offered me the option of half time hours? i don't know what to do....any advice would be appreciated!

Pearsonvue Trick Is this TRUE? Does it work every time?
Hi all! I took the nclex-RN yesterday and I am dying waiting for the results. I was hoping to see my name on the board today, but nothing yet. I am hoping and assuming for tomorrow. I did the "trick" and I got the message about contacting the board so fingers crossed. I have also read hundreds of the postings on this thread (to ease my anxiety), so hopefully I passed. It was a long day today. I will make sure and post my results. Good luck to everyone else that is waiting!

How long before you took NCLEX
I registered for everything online so I got it in the mail. It was 7 days from when the board showed me as pending that I got the att. This is business days, so don't count the weekend. My friends name was pending the same day as me and she got her att the day after I did, so I don't know how they are working everything. All I know is that I want to get this over with already!

How long before you took NCLEX
Well, I finally showed pending on the OH site and today I got my att! It took 7 business days before I got my att. First available appt was for Aug 4th. I scheduled mine for Aug 11th. I am excited to finally know a test date but I am sooooo nervous to take this test. Thanks for all the replies.

How long before you took NCLEX
I cannot believe how long Ohio is taking. I mean after reading all of these replies that other states are not taking as long, it makes me more and more furious. I got thru to them last Thursday and they informed me that they were working on apps they rcvd on 5/7 and they got mine on 5/18. Even w/out weekends I am still behind by 7 days. I asked her to estimate how long before I will show pending and she couldn't give me a time. She said that some days they got 50 apps and other days they got 250! It wouldn't be so bad if after your name is pending (which in my case probably won't be for another 2wks) you got your att right away. But it takes 7-10 business days (2wks) to get your att and then according to a few people that sent their apps in earlier then me and have their att, they had to schedule out 3wks to take nclex. And what can I do but wait? This is sooooo retarded! :angryfire

How long before you took NCLEX
Kadel ~ when were you able to get thru to the board? I have tried for days straight and now on their website it says that the phones are down?! When did you send in your application? I sent mine on 5/15! This is absolutely ridiculous!!!

How long before you took NCLEX
how long from the time that you sent in your paperwork to the board of nursing until you were able to take the nclex? i live in ohio and it has been 7wks since i sent in all of my paperwork and fees and i still haven't heard from anyone. only 2 people from my school has received their auth to test and it took a total of 9wks before they got their att. i guess they are really backed up, i cannot even get thru to them by phone or email in order to check the status. i am getting really irritated because i have a job that is pending me getting my license. just wondering if everyone else has this problem or if it is just ohio?

Starting 1st job and pregnant
i am very excited to be starting this new job. of course, i am still waiting for the board of nursing to make me eligible to sit for the boards. they are very backed up. this floor is a tele floor. i am thrilled to work there, i think i will learn so much. my nurse manager is aware of the fact that i am pregnant and am due at the end of september. she was very encouraging as far as starting now. she said the same as i thought, why wait? especially since i plan on returning 6-8 wks after i have the baby. my issue is that i haven't sat for the boards yet and am thinking that it will be at least another 3 wks before i am able to. i am not going to start up there until i get my license so by the time i start i will probably only get thru the 6wks of orientation and maybe a wk or 2 before i have the baby. i know this is not much time on the floor but there isn't much i can do. i was hoping someone had advice for me.

Return from mat leave with only 6 months experience
I don't have any advice for you unfortunately because I am a new grad and just starting out. I was responding so that others would maybe reply to this post because I am pregnant and am due this September. I plan on taking a shortened maternity leave, like 6-8 weeks instead of 12 but I am nervous that I am going to forget all that I learn in orientation. I do have a job lined up and I will orient for six weeks and that will give me about 10 weeks off of orientation before I have my baby. Of course this is if my baby cooperates and goes til term, lol. I was hoping for any advice anyone would like to offer. I am not trying to hyjack your posting btw!

Job on an Ortho floor
Hi, I am graduating in May!!! I am so excited to be done with school and cannot wait to start my new career. I currently work for a hospital and am starting to put requests in to work as a staff nurse. Right now, there is not many jobs that are currently open. I really want to work nights so I do not have to get a sitter for my daughter. There is a position that is on an ortho floor. My question is, do you think this is a good floor to start out on. I really did not enjoy my ortho rotation very much, but everyone has to start somewhere. I guess I worry that I will not like it, or that I won't learn as much as on a medical floor. Has anyone have any advice on if I should apply for this position or if I should hold out a little longer. I do have a little time to wait considering that I won't have my license right away. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

Help !NEED ADVICE: Just found out I'm Pregnant
Thank you both for your advice. This is such a hard decision. I do currently work in a hospital doing clerical work, so I would be able to attempt to transfer and keep my seniority. I guess I just think, who is going to hire a six month pregnant/new nurse. Thanks again for your advice.
