Starting school in Nov. Scared to death

Published

After waiting for over a year to get into an LPN class, I have been excepted into a school where I can start November 7th. I should be excited but I am not. I feel that I am not prepared yet. I am scared to death of the fact I will not be working for a year. What if I hate it? What if I do not do well? I have wanted this for 7 years and now I am choking. Any words of wisdom? :uhoh21:

Got my call today that I will get into Galen. Classes start Monday. :uhoh21: The next class starts in Feb. They are expensive but it is close and NCLEX pass rate is higher then all in the BayArea. I have heard good things about it. It is easy to get in as well. Thank you for the words of encouragement. I needed them. :)

thanks for the reply, sry I wrote twice, its the first time im posting on this sight. Thanks again

congrats FL! Good luck in the program, it will be fine! You will get burned out about halfway into the program but u will get a second wind!

BTW, can u tell me how long the application process took? Im still playing phone tag with admissions about their LPN to RN transition! Ive got my fingers crossed that there isnt a wait and they have a class starting soon. If so, Ill figure out a way to move closer in order to commute or maybe even move there if hubby will do it.

How was your first day of school?

It was a little scarry. We have a lot of reading to do that is for sure. I need some good study and reading tips. It is a lot of information to process. I really like this quarters instructor. He has a great sense of humor and makes it a little more interesting in the boring areas. Thanks for asking.

My sister and I are both going to start nursing school together next Aug. 06, but we have to get someother schooling over with in Jan. 06 before we can go on to the nursing field. Well honestly I am really scared, because I haven't been in school since 87. Well I don't know if I really want to do this then again I do know that I want to do this. I have anxiety attacks, then worriness. I'm I doing the right thing or not. :o I haven't been in college before and didn't want to when I graduated but now I really want to make something of myself. But I really need some support from those who are going through and have gone through this already. I know it isn't going to be easy :uhoh3: . Oh I am so dizzy for all this stuff I am already doing to just get ready for college. What will I be like when it really starts. Please help!!! :imbar

Sounds like we are around the same age. It is actually not as bad as I thought. I wasn't even interested in high school when I was in high school. Not to mention that I was a terrible student. The most important question to ask yourself is "Do I want this" If you said yes, then take a deep breath and go for it. It is difficult. Think of it like starting a new job. It was tough at first and you didn't know anything but you learned to acclimate yourself. I am doing that myself. On the first couple of days, I would have a thought and question my decision and then realize by conversations that several other students were thinking the same thing. You are not going to be alone. It will be tough but you can do it. We all can. It takes some faith in yourself and support from your family. Life is short. We don't want to pass an opportunity by out of fear. I can't tell you not to be anxious because I know exactly what you mean. I have wanted to be a nurse for a long time. My fears are still there but my desire to be a nurse is greater. Feel free to send me a PM anytime.

Hey flwannaB! I've got a lot of reading to do too. My instructor gave some good advise: Read/study for 20-30 minutes at a time, take a 10 minute break, then read/study for 20-30 minutes. She says you will retain the information better that way. I have 3 tests next week and I only go 4 days a week :uhoh3:. I've got a great instructor too. She makes us feel very confortable. There are only 10 students in our class, which I really love. This is a 15 month evening program and we have the same instructor for the entire 15 months. Good luck to you !
