starting school this fall

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm starting school this fall, planning on going into the nursing program, and what I'm wondering is this. I have always struggled with math and science, so am I crazy to go into nursing? I've wanted to be a nurse since I was little, I'm 30 now and I'm finally going to do it but frankly I'm scared to death! What do you think? Thanks!

Specializes in no specialty! (have to graduate first!).

Do you want to know what my grades were like in high school in my math and english classes? I barely graduated high school with a D in EVERY math and science class. How sad is that?

But.........I am 27 years old now and as someone mentioned early, school is a completely different experience as an adult. I just finished my pre-req's and I am entering the nursing program this fall. I am entering the nursing program with a 4.0 GPA. I am certain that you will have the same experiences that I have had. I went from very poor grades to straight A's. If I can do it, I am 100% positive you can too.

So to answer your question, NO! You are not crazy for wanting to be a nurse! You can do it! Just learn to be confident in yourself. If you are confident in yourself, you can do anything.

I'm 33, and math and science were never my strong subjects. I was surprised that I did as well as I did in these sections on my TEAS test. I also did very well in my ANP 101 & 102 classes, so there must be hope for me yet.

Good Luck!

Hello im going on 38 and im taking my pre-reqs this fall and im scared, I havent been to school in awhile and I always thought I wasnt smart enough to be a nurse but its my dream...so im going for it....:nurse::)

Smiley, you will do fine....I am 46 and started school spring 08....I was horrible in High school w/study skills and grades. My amth still stinks but I am not letting that deter me....I just started over in it....from the bottom up and I am pulling A's right now....If I can do it, you can. Good Luck!

I am 32(almost 33) and am starting the nursing program in August. I have always been horrible with Math it has never made any sense at all to me.When I took the entrance test to my college I had to take 2 developmental math classes just to be able to torture myself with the college level algebra,I am taking that this summer. It has gotten ALOT easier for me now,try to get a good instructor and that will help a lot.I still do not enjoy Math but I feel comfortable doing it now.I think that you will to as you go farther into your classes.Your just going to have to work hard at it and don't give up!!

hi, im very close to thirty and also starting my pre-reqs this fall and i i'm scared to death. iv'e never been good in math, not to bad in science but i have to say that i am determined and reading everyone's comments actually made me feel so good about myself and also motivated to know that i'm not the only one and i'm not alone in this and i just want to say a special thanks to everyone who posted.....it really made my day today. thank you....:heartbeat

I found that when I applied myself I did well.

I took Algebra and A&P w/lab at the same time(I had 2 other classes as well). My DH was also deployed, I had the 3 kids 2 dogs all by myself. I also worked part time with our local veteran's office.

I really slacked off with the A&P so I got c's in both of those classes.

When I took stock the following semester, I realized the blessing that school is/was and I kicked myself in the booty for not doing better. I ended up getting a B in A&PII the next semester.

Take it one day at a time. Use ALL the school resources and talk with your Prof as much as you need too. Don't be ashamed to continue to ask questions and for help when you need it.

Believe it or not it goes by quickly. I'm applying to nursing school in the fall:yeah: Just two years ago I was in the military. I feel like I've come so far and I'm looking forward to the rest of this journey!:heartbeat
