Hey Guys, I'm starting LVN school in January. I've worked in a home health office but haven't really had any medical experience. I was wondering did any of yall go into school not knowing ANYTHING like how to take vitals etc?

:ancong!: on starting nursing school. I have 5 years experince as a medical assistant so I will have some experince such as vital signs, blood draws (I hope this will help with IV's), and other stuff. But you will do great! Tons up people go into nursing school with no medical experience.

It depends on the program....do you meant that you've already been accepted, or that you plan to start in January. If you've already been accepted, then don't worry, they'll teach you everything.

(Given that you were acceped, and you're asking this question, I'm assumeing they have no pre-reqs, meaning they start from scratch.)

Many of my classmates had no medical experience. I had some experience but I never took any vitals or anythig before I went to school. Im n school n ow and as long as you devote yourself to your studies youll be fine. They have lab where your instructors teach you how to do everything from putting on sterile gloves to inserting NG tubes and catheters- and yes they even teach you how to do vitals. Its normal to be nervous or wonder if your the only one who doesnt know how to do them. BUt sometimes not knowing how to do things may be an advantage, you can learn how to do things correctly- where as people that already have done it, may be doing it wrong- NUrsing school is very exact- you do it how your really suppose to do it. Its hard to break habits, and if youve been doing it your own way, which is fine out in the medical field, just not in school- it will be much harder for you to break those habits. My school required no pre reqs and we all started form scratch- im so greatful that I can go to one place and learn everything that I need to - and do it the right way!

Thanks, i feel so much better. That really makes a lot of sense what you said about learning it the right way. Thanks again for all of yall's imput.

I start LVN school on January 9, its a 1 year vocational program.:):):)

I just finished Lvn school last week and going into it we didnt have to have any experience. We just had to take the NET test. Im sure if you had the experience it would help you alot. Alot of the girls in my class were CNA's.

Hi I start Lvn school on Jan 20,2009... I do not have any experience but am very excited about this opportunity.

:ancong!:I start LPN classes on Jan 12 also. I was a cna for a year and a half but its not going to matter cause when you think you know something that's when you find out that you really dont. I still dont know the CORRECT way to give a bed bath eventhough i did it everyday. So i really dont think experience will matter at all. I'm going in like i havent seen anything of that stuff before.

Yea after talking to some of my LVN friends, they say it is better to go in there not really knowing much that way you learn it right the first time. I love this site!!!!
