Hi Everyone!

I am starting the ACE Program Sept. 07. Anyone else?! I am so excited to finally be doing this! I'm looking for new friends (since i most likely won't see my current ones often!)

I just applied for spring...do you mind telling me your stats?? Im still waiting to hear..Congrats by the way! I love Philadelphia!

My Stats? I am a ECE Grad from Temple University 2003. I'm finishing up my pre-req's in microbiology and ethics.

I'm horribly excited to start the program! I've seriously considered this for so long and can't wait to finally start!

I will be living very frugally for the next year though! Drexel doesn't give a whole lot of financial aid.

Hi Jwan ~ I got your PM. Thanks for contacting me! I'm really excited to start, too, and would definitely like to get to know some of my future classmates before classes actually start. Are you local?

I got a call from Ms. Breslin on Friday morning asking how the remainder of my pre-reqs are coming along (I'm taking my final one right now - Chem) and I just came to the realization that it's not that far away. The first day of class is 9/24...that means not even 4 more months to save every penny possible so I'm not living on Ramen noodles for a year.

I definitely feel your pain about living frugally. I wasn't at all surprised that Drexel's financial aid package consisted of only loans, but was a little dissappointed...I guess I was hoping in the back of my mind that there would be at least a little bit of free money offered. Oh well, it all be worth it in the end when I'm no longer spending my days sitting behind a desk, staring at a computer all day. I can't believe how much I'm looking forward to eating, sleeping and breathing nursing school!

Ms. Breslin called me too! I am taking Microbiology and Ethics right now. And then I am done. I am local. I live just out side of philly. In Delaware county. You?

Yeah my husband and I just took out a personal loan to pay for the remainder of school that we weren't able to save up. (We just got married in April) At this point we have to look at it as in investment. We are bettering ourselves and our careers. It will be worth every penny to be in such a rewarding job.

I am taking an entire month off before I start at Drexel to see my friends one last time! hehehe Because goodness knows they won't be seeing me for 11 months!

I've talked to a few people who just finished the ACE program and they have given me so great advice. I am so excited. I don't think I've ever known anyone as excited to start such an intense program. I guess we will see how excited we are half way through!

JDNNUrse is right, see all your good friends while you can because you won't see them much or at all for 11 months

Lots of luck to you in the upcoming year....it's a difficult program and they will tell you that repeatedly in the first few months as you start the program too.

I've just started the fourth quarter, it starts out pretty easy and you think to yourself, "what were they all talking about? This is cake." but wait, by the third quarter it really starts to hit you. Just make sure you study when you have time and enjoy this bit of time before you start.

Again good luck, and start to look over anything and everything for the adult classes....diseases, pathophysiology, etc. it will be great info for those classes that come up quick.

I'm also going to Drexel (ACE) this fall. Does anyone know when the orientation is?? I thought they were going to send us a letter about orientation. I finished my prereqs and sent my transcripts. I'm just trying find out what my next step should be.

Oh, btw, where did you go to get your immunization form filled out? I don't have a family doctor and I don't have insurance. I was just wondering where to get the shots/tests that Drexel requires. My old college only needed my immunization card so I don't know how to go about completing Drexel's Immunization form (especially without insurance).

Thanx!

Hi Ice ~ I think the orientation will be either August 8th or 9th, but I'm not completely sure. When Ms. Breslin called to check on the status of my remaining pre-reqs, she mentioned that we should be receiving orientation info. toward the end of June, but I haven't received anything yet, either.

I, too, just finished my pre-reqs during the last week of June and had my transcripts forwarded this past week as soon as grades were posted. It seems to take forever for Drexel to receive transcripts and post them to my file, so I plan on harrassing them daily until I know they have been officially received. Until then, I personally need to work on securing my loans. I've been trying desperately to find a private loan that doesn't have an outrageous interest rate and doensn't require a cosigner.:trout:

As for the immunization form, I took it to my family doctor. He filled it out and called me to set up an appt. for the immunizations that I was missing. In your situation, I would check into local clinics, which tend to be less expensive than family practice doctors. You could probably even call Drexel and explain your situation. They may be able to suggest some lower cost alternatives to a family doc. I'm sure you're not the only student they've ever had that didn't have a family doc. or insurance. Just be sure to bring any paperwork with you that you might have noting your immunization history.

Also, make sure that the immunization form that you have from Drexel requires a 2-step PPD. I was sent an old form that only required a one step, took it to my family doc and got the immunizations that I was missing (including the one step PPD listed on the form) and sent it back to Drexel. A couple weeks later I was sent an orange card noting that I was missing a 2-step PPD. I called the school and was told that they had sent me an out of date form and that I would have to go back to my family doc and have an updated form filled out and pay to have the 2-step test done. They emailed the updated form to me. :angryfire Just in case you also received the form that only requires the one step, I've attached the updated form (save yourself some time and money).

If you don't have insurance, you can get the the shots from Drexel, it's a walk in office in Drexel/Hospital. You will have to pay in cash.

cathy,

thanks for the info.

i wonder why ms. breslin didn't call me. anyways, i'm glad to hear from other students that are starting this fall.

i'm also looking for loans to pay for school. in the meantime, i'm trying not to think about how expensive this whole program is going to end up being!! do you know of anyone that was in the ACE program who received any loan forgiveness from hospitals? I've been looking for loan forgiveness programs, but I really didn't find any (except for the PHEEA thing).

thanks. I'll give them a call to see approximately how much this would cost me.
