Started Walden FNP program any do's or don't?

Hello all,

I have started Walden University in the FNP program. I could not find many consumer reviews regarding their student satisfaction. Only that they have a 29% retention rate? Are there any do's or dont's that I should keep in my while progressing this program. I am a critical care nurse that works 36 hours a week. I just want to be sucessful. I appreciate all insight, opinions, and two cents that anyone would like to give.

I was in their MSN management degree a couple of years ago. I transferred to Graceland for my FNP becuase Walden did not have a FNP at the time. I had a great experience there and would have stayed if possible. Maybe the statistics you are seeing are because it is a new program??

I started the FNP at Walden in September 2012 and all is great. Very demanding and the program encourages interaction and comprehension of course material. I am now looking for a preceptor for september 2013. I would like to get my preceptor application in by april 1st. I am in Georgia. Anyone with any insight about this would be helpful. right now I am looking on eNP for preceptors and asking around.

" To Start or Not to Start" FNP at WALDEN is the question ?

I am starting the FNP program this Semester as well.

I have spent a year reseraching various unviersities and have had mixed reviews. I feel unsure wonder how it is going to be ... As long as we pass the state board and get good clinicals I feel the teaching material is the same everywhere. But still- will it be recognized.

I've answered this question before and I will now just say that the best action is to call the state's BRN directly. However, I will say what California's rules are here:

CA approves NP programs for the sole purpose of allowing their graduates to be licensed without having to go through national certification. It's a quick and easy way to start working after graduation since you will get licensed faster than if you have to wait to apply to AANP and ANCC and pass the national test.

The approved NP programs are all based in California. They run the spectrum of well known state universities, private institutions, and for profits. Some of these are online programs - one is a University of Phoenix campus in Sacramento. Note that this is the only U of P campus on the list.

If you are a graduate of a nationally accredited NP program (CCNE or ACEN) you are eligible to apply for national certification from both AANP and ANCC. In California, NP's who did not graduate from a BRN approved program will receive an NP license if they are nationally certified. Walden is CCNE accredited.

California is not an independent practice state. As a new FNP, you will need to seek employment under a Standardized Procedure with a physician. Whether a Walden degree is viewed with scrutiny by the larger physician community in California or not, I am not certain. Walden has not graduated any NP's yet .

I have been accepted to start program this November. Any present FNP students out there that can give me some advice and if you think this school is a positive thing. Just a little anxious at this point.

I started in June. I am an AGNP student. So far my experience has been pleasant. I feel the instructors really are attentive and try to help you.

I am also looking at starting walden, I have 2 friends here in California who finished walden and practice now, just not sure if its accepted in texas as I would like to move back thiere soon. if anyone has any expiernce with walden being accepted their please let me know. I was looking at uta, but they never seem to write or return calls when I had a question on their app, not sure how helpful theyd be during school if problems arose, walden seems more eager to speak with you, prolly cause they are for profit. as far as trouble finding employment based on where you got your degree from online versus brick and mortar? not sure about other areas but I know most EDs are to busy to care where you went to school, at least in this area they hire new grads from everywhere all the time.
