Hi all my beautiful nurse and nurses to be I just started my Lpn program on monday it is a part time program tuesand thursday and every other weekend, monday was orientation.Orientation was long and boring but exciting at the same time we got alot and I mean alot of paper work, handbooks and our syllabus for quarter 1(we have four quarters)quarter 1 is A&P, nursing fundamentals(foundations of nursing text by christensen)and professional awareness(contemp nursing text)then our clinicals for quarter 1 that start august 3rd(excited) for now on the weekends we just have labs.Yesterday april 29th was the actual first day we got our uniforms, books, stethoscope, bandage scissors, penlight, lpn pdq manual, nurses pocket dictionary, lab coat just soooooo much stuff. Our teacher a BSN RN is really nice but she is new to teaching. So we tried to give her a break. We started with chapter 5(nursing diagnosis)she presented a power point presentation(hate those) and tried her best to break it down but to most of the class hardly anyone was geting the difference of a nusring diagnosis to an actual medical diagnosis(crazy isn't it) but after about 3 long hours of her power point she let us have our own reading time to cover the chapter as soon as I read the chapter I understood and broke down everything once we resumed class and then everybody goes OOOOOO now we get it:yeah:isn't that crazy but she is new , so we are giving her a chance to get used to us and get better so I will just read my chapters over and over to cover my material so just is case she doesn't..Overall all it was an ok day I just wishshe could of elaborated a little more on certain topics, but it was the first day lets see tomorrow. We also watched a beautiful johnson and johnson video on nursing it was so inspirational I think even if you don't want to be a nurse that video would change your mind:heartbeat. That was m first day in a nutshell just wanted to share with everyone I will come back and update, she said she gives tests every 2 chapters so we will see. Thanks for listening guys:bowingpur

Isn't it exciting? I started a couple of weeks ago as well...
I am enjoying it however I cannot wait to get my hands on someone! :chuckle LOL The book part of learning is so dry. I don't think we get to start clinicals for some time.
Anyhow- good luck with your studies and keep us posted. It is so cool to see how other schools do things, etc.

Thanks so much , I know how you feel I can't wait to take care of an actual patient, the book part is just so much reading and knowledge to take in but it's worth it, we start our clinicals aug 3rd in the hospital but for now every other saturday we are doing our labs.In our school we have a huge room made up like a hospital room for us to practice for now our patients are real like dummies with actual fake body fluid inside them, charting, hanging IV's on the dummies it is really cool. Keep me update with your program also looking forward to hearing from you and everybodys experience so far. Good luck guys about to go study have class tonight.
