This past Monday i started A&P II. I have not gotten my final grade for part one yet but I calculated it the way she told us to and it came out a B and i am VERY happy with that. The instructor i had for part one was very nice lady. The instructor we have for part two is a nice guy, he is from Israel he is a MD with a MHSA and MBA and some other degree's, and he was a captain in the Israeli army, and he does lapse into stories about that all the time. He has a very strong accent but very understandable. He isn't as lenient as our last instructor but he is fair and really is interested in us learning this stuff and passing, He says i want to make it easy for you but i have responsibility, he says good nurses know there stuff and we must know this to be good nurses and doctors or whatever medical profession we are going into. Today we dissected a brain and eye ball, i thought for sure i was going to be squeamish and grossed out, but surprisingly i was not and just jumped right in, i never dissected anything before this so it was a neat experience, with much more to come. The thing is we are on the nervous system and there is just so much info and right now i am a bit overwhelmed. We have a 100 point exam every Monday and i am kind of feakin, but this time though i have better study habits, and i am surprised that i am able to absorb most of the info. well that its for now. Anyone else finish with part 1 this summer and off to part 2.Any tips as far as studying, websites, anything else are very much welcomed.
Also i was thinking of taking Microbiology(another 5 week condensed lab course) after A&p 2 but that will leave me with no summer left before nursing in the fall, but if i don't i will have to take it either next summer with Nurse 3 or maybe i could take it with Nurse 2. But the good thing is next summer if i decide to just wait and take it then, i can take it in the first 5 weeks and by the time Nurse 3 starts i will only have like 7 days left of Micro. Should i wait and take it next summer and relax and do things this summer before I start nursing in the fall, or should I get it out of the way. I know only i can make the decision but i love input from others.
Sorry for the long boring post, i am anxious to hear how everyone else is doing

Hey Andy -
I found A&P II to be very interesting. I think the best advice I can give you is to stay on top of your veins and arteries. You will also be going into the endocrine system in great detail (well..at least we did) and it is so important to make sure you have an understanding of the hormones and how they work..before you know it - it all will tie in together. I personally think A&PII is more of an understanding rather than memorization like A&P I. Either way.... it is very interesting and it all comes together at the end. As far as micro goes.....I think I might take a little time in between before nursing school - but hey, if you're in study mode...it might work best for you. Either way... good luck to you!

Yes Dr Ben said that we would be doing Endocrine, cardiovascular, and all the rest of the body systems that we dont cover in part 1, I am already seeing how some of it ties together. I really would like to take Micro this summer but anpther part of me just wants to relax.

I agree, you can't study your arteries and veins too much. That's what almost cost me in A&P2. The rest of it, digestion, urinary, reproduction, endocrine (which my instructor also stressed the hormones of alot), seemed easy compared to the cardiovascular.
I know you can do it, Andy. :)
THanks Noel, Yeah the one good part is we go from M,W,11-1:15,
Tu,Th,8-1:15 so we get The rest of thursday, Friday and staurday sunday to study before the next test
I'm so happy, we took our first lecture test on Monday. It was on the nervous system which comprised of two parts in our book and the senses, for a total of 3 chapters. Yes this test was very very very Difficult and from talking to everyone in my class not just for me. But the reason why i am so happy is because i managed to get a B+ on what our instructor called one of the 2 most difficult exams of this 5 week summer session of A&PII. So maybe my chance to get an A is not so far off. I got a B in part 1 but i want an A in part 2. I also got a A on my Human growth test. I feel bad because with A&PII i really don't have that much time to really absorb any info from my online Human Growth class. I am interested in Psych but all I can do in this class is read and try to learn major issues just to pass the test, and i can remember enough to get an A or B but it really isn't going to sink in the way all my other classes did because i don't have the time to let it. Is that going got hurt me bad in Nursing school i know all of these classes are very important, but with A&PII its just so hard to really get involved with Human Growth. At least in 3 weeks when I'm done with A&P i can read through my Human growth material and try to learn as much as i can.
Hope everyone else is doing well this summer
Andy
Well I got a B on the last 2 lecture tests and i have been studying for 8 hours straight for the lab practicum i have to take at 8am this morning. I'm a little worried that i am not going to remember any of this A&P info when i start nursing in 2 months. I understand most of the info, but i cannot remember everything and I'm worried that because i cannot remember everything that its going to come back to haunt me come Nursing classes. Ask me anything about the Blood, Lymphatic, endocrine, cardiovascular, i have these down and understand how they are supposed to work and everything. But i only can remember certain things from the nervous system(action potentials, neuroglial cells, spinal nerves) the rest is like a blur. And Genetics i cannot remember anything about it, we did not go over it much but, i hope that it is not something that i am gonna wish i would have understood more when I'm in nursing school. Has anyone else felt like this or been in my shoes. I guess with the 3 weeks of summer i have left after Micro i will have to just read reread and read somemore A&P. Hope all is well out there for you all

I don't think that it's necessarily important to remember everything you learned in the course. I think the point is that you have been exposed to it and you learned it so when it comes up later in nursing courses it won't be totally new to you. It might be a little hazy, you might need to pull out the old A&P book, but you will only have to review, not learn anew. Don't stress and don't make yourself crazy during your three weeks of freedom between classes. You'll need the relaxation time more!

i hope one of you will reply to this. my A+P 2 prof. found out that i had the notes from somone in a previous class. i didn't see a big deal since it helps me very little anyaway. he ended up e-mailing me saying he was irritated that i wasn't taking notes in class and it wasn't fair to everyone else. today he changed all the notes for this section. wow! all cause' of little old me. i'm not even an A student. should i be insulted? am i a cheater, cheater pumpkin eater? please someone help me to get over this........
ArcieDee-- thanks you for the input, i am learning it all and understanding i just did not want to be in trouble if i cannot absolutely memorize everything. And i am going to try and relax during my 3 week vacation, i have a tendency to drive myself nuts with worry and I'm working on it cause it might be hindrance 2 me for the next 2 years.
WindyHill-- I would not worry about it, i do not think that is cheating in anyway shape or form. If you had the notes out during a closed book quiz or an Exam then Thats cheating. Notes from someone else for studying and learning is not cheating. You teacher sounds rude, petty.
I got a A on my first Lecture exam this 5 week A&P II semester!!! i am actually doing way better in A&PII then i did in A&P 1( barley got a B in A&PI) but this time i got b and a on all the exams so far, woot!. Well hope you are all doing good in A&P remember to study study study

I am taking A & P II and microbiology right now in the 5 week summer course (finals next week, almost done!) A&P II is way easier for me than the first one was. I made a B on the first test and then all A's since. I think it would be better to take micro before nursing. Just my opinion, but from taking it I understand alot more on bacteria and viruses and how it relates to disease and the healthcare industry. It all ties in better and that seems like it could only be benefitial. But I completely understand the need for a break as well. I'm a bit jealous that you get to dissect stuff! My cheapo school we don't even have profiecient models, much less get to do that sort of stuff! (But luckily there is a body worlds exhibit at the local science museum so that's pretty useful to study anatomy!) The website I use most often to study is:

How much longer until you are finished?
Ohh yeah i forgot to tell you all. This past Monday in Lab we got to dissect a heart, not sure if it was a pig or sheep. And today after the Lab exam we dissected a fetal Pig, it was all very very cool. Alot of it sticks with me when i get to dissect it.
