staRN program??? Questions...

Hey everyone,

I just got offered a spot in the staRN new grad program for St. Lucie Medical Center's ICU! The program is not until Oct. 20th and the site is almost 1 1/2 hours away....so I am trying to figure out how I will manage childcare at that time. Can anyone who has been in the program tell me what your classroom and clinical hours were like? Did you have your clinicals at the same hospital you did classroom work at? The nurse recruiter does not have this info for me right now.....so any input would be really helpful! Also, I am pregnant and due to deliver right in the middle of clinicals, so who knows how that will work out when I tell the recruiter. Hopefully it doesn't stop me from participating in the program....

For those of you that did the StaRn program, did the home study days really take 8 hours to complete?

I got into the staRN program here in Overland Park, Kansas. I wont start until July 10th 2017 (if I pass my nclex) eeeeeke! Im going to post what I know about the program so far. It is 14 weeks of paid training. I will be paid $23.27 an hour as full time salary (so I'm assuming I'm paid for 40 hours each week) while in training. If I do not finish 2 years at the hospital that I am training for I will have to pay back the prorated amount for $4,000. So if I stay one year, Ill owe them $2,000.

Best of luck to everyone!

Preceptorship is at the hospital that hired you, hope this helps

Hi you are assigned home study days which you complete online study modules and get paid for completing them, the exam comes from the information in the modules. The test is a small part of the program, you get 2 chances to pass it, it is mostly about hands on practice of skills and patient care , very laid back and no pressure, you just practice until you feel that you got it then move on to the next thing.

Just got accepted in the program also. Are there a lot of at home study days?

I know this is an old thread, but I recently applied to both the St. Lucie and Lawnwood StarRN programs. Does anyone know how long it might take for a recruiter to contact you? I graduated nursing school in December in another state and recently moved down here because of my husband's job change. I already have my FL license - took less time than I thought. I had started a job at my previous location, but was unable to complete orientation before our house sold. I'm hoping the small amount of prior work experience doesn't hurt my application, as this program is for new grads. I still feel new - and I don't have that magical one year experience. They didn't have this type of program where I was before and I think it's a great opportunity.
