Does anyone work there?? I just got hired there today. Was wondering how it is?

Congrats on getting hired! I'm sorry I have no insight into Starlight, but I am just curious - - are you a new grad? Any exp? What type of training did they offer you?

I'm a sorta new grad working in LTC and thinking about a switch. And well, since hospitals arent hiring.....

I was told I'd be trained to be a skilled pediatric nurse...I am a new grad wirth no experience outside of clinical. I know they have a classroom/lab in their office suite and also, I think I will be precepting with other nurses. The only negative I see right now is that it is 8 hour shifts. I was kind of hoping for 12s.

One major plus...the entire staff that I met was very nice and warm..this included my supervisor, DON, HR department, and I think a couple fellow nurses.

A friend of mine works for that company. First off, from her ive seen a few problems so far. My friend had one 8 hour shift with a preceptor before being handed the case. She was a new grad as well. I also enquired about working for them and I was told by the owner that I could come in for orientation but they didnt have any usage for male nurses. I find this kind of whacky.

What does that even mean?? They won't hire you because you;re male? Sorry, confused here.

I think what they meant was that in Home Care sometimes the family or the patient doesn't want a male nurse. I was told this before orientation, but they found a case that ok'd me being a male....i don't know.

Hi there...not sure if you will be coming back to this thread but if you do would you care to update on how your experience at Starlight is? I was recently hired (orientating next month) and am cautiously optimistic about it though I am nervous about homecare, esp as a new grad. Would LOVE to hear your thoughts! Thanks!

its pretty cool...you learn a case but then it's easy and you just go through your routine. Scheduling is flexible and management is very nice...Good luck. Where are you being hired?

Thanks for the quick reply! I am being hired to work in the Lakewood area. I have two concerns1) that I am going to be bored out of my mind or 2) I am going to be in way over my head! Do you feel like you were given enough orientation time? Get to use you skills? Are gaining valuable experience? Sorry for all the questions! I don't start till next month so I have a lot of time to dwell on it:0)

I was told most of the cases are young infants-have you found that to be true? Are working days or nights? How is it working with the parents? Do they hang over you? Ask inappropriate things?

If you've read this far and take the time to answer-thank you so very much!!!

Hey Guys,

I was also hired at Starlight. So far sounds much better than the hospital. Staff seems nice. They work around your schedule preference and the pay is good. I am a new grad. I feel confident about this agency, but I am just worried about going into home care with out that 1 yr med/surg experience. Now that you guys have worked there for a little while now what do you think? Would you rather be at a hospital? Just need a little insight. Thanks for any info you may have.

Hi I'm new to this site but came across this thread and have a question...more like a concern. Ok I recently had an "interview" at starlight. I filled out paperwork and took the tests and was then told I would be called by the DON on monday(tomorrow) to set-up my orientation schedule. I am wondering if this is the normal process?? Is there really a phone call coming or is this a shot in the dark. I'm a new nurse w/o experience so I'm praying this comes thru...but I have also been employeed before and know a interview consist of sitting face to face with someone. I have never interviewed at an agency so I'm not sure what the "normal" process is. If anyone knows anything about this can you shed some light on this please. Thanks!
