Stanford Nurse Residency August 2023 Cohort 39

Published

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to submit this here to start a place where all of us who have applied to Stanford's nurse residency program can communicate. This is for cohort 39, which has a start date of August 21, 2023. I hope we all get in!

I know several candidates have asked... I'm curious if anyone has heard from Surgical units for 2nd interview??

Hello,

I have heard from Surgical Division 1 for a second interview. I got a text from the ANM of Trauma/Acute Surgery (K7) yesterday around 4:30pm. They scheduled me for an in-person on-the-unit interview for 06/26.

Congrats! I was wondering if you had prior experience in that dept? I want to see how I can improve my application for the next cycle!

I don't have any experience with the surgical AAUs and have never been to them.

Had my interview for the AAU medicine units today at 11! Honestly, I've been a nervous wreck since the interview. I wish it had went better and I keep thinking about the answers I gave. Oof...

Stanford is my dream hospital and I hope I get a call back for a second interview :(( I just don't have a good feeling about it. Anyone have tips on how to feel better ???

remind yourself that you did as well as you could do at the time and what will be will be❤️

Specializes in n/a.

Catlover55062. don't feel discourage. There are other great hospitals are hiring new grad. maybe not the same salary, but they are cutting edge too, and they look great on the resume for NGP and they are best for learning just like Stanford.  Maybe consider applying there to start, then move to Stanford. I know Mayo, Johns Hopkins , Penn, UCSD, Sharp the applications are open now for new grad.

Hey Cat,

I think you were actually in my panel LOL. I feel the same, hopefully they'll be considerate of our responses, etc. I've been overthinking my answers a TON. Just realize we did the best we could, and whatever happens, happens.

OMG hi!! For safety sakes, I was the girl with the glasses LOL. Honestly, everyone in our panel today was so amazing and I seriously mean that. I would love if we all got the chance to be in the program?? I feel so embarassed because some of my answers I ahd to think of scenerios on the spot. I spracticed like 9 of them and seriously only used like 3 or 4 of them. I had to bring back a response from my application because I had nothing else that best answered the questions???? Hoping for the best for us! Good luck'

Hahahaha, good to match a face to the words! You did awesome, I remember your responses. I was the only white guy LOL. The first question I got caught me so off guard that I also had to come up with one on the spot. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about anything. We did really well given the circumstances! Hopefully we get some calls tmrw. Good luck to you too ?

That was the toughest interview. I really prepared for it but my anxiety took over big time. Other candidates may have had a different (positive) experience (and kudos to you) but I want to be REAL here for a second. All 4 of my candidates and I were BEYOND nervous. We were shaky in our voices the entire time but we remained professional. One candidate left the interview mid-way because they couldn't find an answer to the question. I felt SO SAD for that candidate.... AND it almost happened to me!! I couldn't answer one of the questions because I did not have experience related to it so I had to share another similar experience to the best of my knowledge while remaining under 2 mins. I don't know guys.. it was a horrible, neutral experience for me and probably for the candidates that I was with as well.

I am still waiting to hear back at this moment in time. I am still recovering from it and taking it as a positive experience for future interviews. But, if I do not get a second interview, I am not going to be upset... I should never have to feel that much anxiety and tension in an interview ever. So words of advice.. do the best you can, show your personality, and take it as a learning experience. Don't ever get yourself down if you feel like you weren't good enough. YOU are enough and be kind to yourself during this job hiring process for any hospital. You will soon find your place in life.

Hopefully, my vulnerability will make others feel less alone. I wish everyone the best and send all my support. xx

Hi! I know how you feel, let it be known that you aren't alone and it's only natural to be nervous with an interview of this caliber. Let us focus on the bright side, the world is still turning, our hearts are still beating and we still have so much more left to do, life goes on! Our value should not derive from a program with such a limited acceptance rate and if we truly belong at Stanford, we will somehow find our way back here for good some day!

I wish you the best in your nursing journey, whether that be at Stanford or wherever we are meant to end up!

Thank you for sharing this- this is very well written and I resonate with your feelings especially since it's not openly talked about. It was an unnecessarily intense experience and not in a constructive way. As someone else said in this thread, their interview style is not a great way to judge character nor capability as a nurse. The militant-like tone they use to ask questions just added to the tension that everybody was feeling so it's hard for most people to be themselves under those conditions. No matter the outcome, congratulations and great work and effort to everyone that has made it through their interview(s)! Remember that Stanford doesn't define your value or worth as a nurse. ♥️
