Stanford March 2023 New Grad Program

Nurses Residency

Published

Hi guys, with the program application about to open I thought I would make a thread!

Hello everyone! I hope the new grad program is going well for those of you in it! I was just wondering if anyone can give me pointers for the second round of interview, specifically for the medicine division I unit. Thank you so much!

Hi everyone. I was curious if anyone has any input  on whether or not currently working for SHC "helps" applicants in anyway to stand out? Or if anyone that got an interview or a position was already employed within SHC prior?

Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone! I'm sure everyone following this post is no longer actively looking, but I was hoping to get a reply if possible. I'm interviewing for the first rounds for Oncology and was wondering if any of you had advice on how to not get anxious during the interview and if you received the job, how did you prepare for the interviews? What do you think made you stand out? Thank you in advance, I appreciate it!!

@pwong hey first off congrats! you're a step closer to getting this :) I got into the previous cohort. what helped me was having down 4-5 stories that were applicable to multiple questions and know them by heart. I know people advise not to memorize answers bc you might sound robotic but it's what works for me. I practiced a lot in front of a mirror and with friends and family so after a while I feel like I was able to get rid of the roboticness and make it sound way more natural. practicing out loud and recording your answers is key. you get to see which parts need strengthening and if the story has good flow. and after doing it so much, by the time the interview came, it felt a lot easier knowing what to say. also make sure to smile! and let them know that you're grateful for the opportunity :)

as for nerves, literally everyday before the interview I would take a 30 min walk or meditate to try to relax. I did a lot of affirmations and just prayed prayed prayeddd to get in. the day of the interview I was a shaking mess but after doing my routine and a bunch of breathing exercises I was good to go.

best of luck to you!!

Thank you so much for the reply and taking the time to elaborate on what helped for you, it was very reassuring!! I am doing the same where I am creating/memorizing my stories but after hearing so many people say not to, I was questioning that method. It helps to know it helped you! I will definitely take all the tips you mentioned so I can hopefully be in your shoes one day!!
