Stanbridge or West Coast University

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone! I am currently deciding between Stanbridge and West Coast University’s BSN Program! West Coast is more expensive than Stanbridge and both schools are CCNE accredited. WCU is regionally accredited as an institution which means I can apply to MSN programs in the future. However, Stanbridge is only nationally accredited as an institution so it might be difficult for me to apply to MSN programs. I am debating between the cost and the accreditation so I am not too sure. What do you guys think?

I don't know why anyone would ever attend West Coast University, the cost is ridiculous. If I ever spent that kind of money then I better be a medical doctor by the end of it. I'm not sure what your financial situation is but if you want to get a masters after that then you are going to have a stupid amount of debt. It doesn't pass the common sense test even if you are fabulously wealthy.

Hey!

Accreditation is the most important factor if you want to apply to MSN programs in the future. Yes West Coast is expensive but it has the accreditation. Stanbridge is both expensive and lacks the accreditation.

If West Coast is your last resort like me, make sure you transfer in all your general education courses. If you don't have a previous bachelor's degree, you may be able to qualify for FAFSA. I also believe that you can apply for merit based scholarships after your first year at wcu.

Good luck!

Thank you so much! This was really helpful and I will take your advice. A lot of people in these threads hate West Coast so I have been beating myself up for choosing this school. I completed all my ge requirements and qualify for FAFSA! I start in June! Are you currently attending West Coast?

I'm glad that I could help! I've been there, it took me over a year to make peace with my decision to move forward with west coast. I follow some students on instagram who currently attend wcu, they share their experiences and are open to answering any questions about the program. I'm still in the admissions process, I have my financial aid this upcoming week. I'll be starting in June as well depending on seat availability!

Aww I'll be at the OC campus! Just sent you a follow request ?

I graduated from Stanbridge as an LVN, but I'm going to APU under ELM nursing. APU was cheaper than WCU. Did you check out APU? I have friends that graduated from both Stanbridge and WCU.. Its all about the pros and cons...

Hey

I planned to start WCU in June as well in Ontario but I believe a spot has opened for LVN to BSN and now im starting in April ?. Which campus are you attending ?

Im currently attending west coast. It was my last resort after multiple attempts to get into an ADN program. I choose westcoast over standbridge because they didn't allow me to transfer over my GE but not sure if that has changed. West coast provides students with great resources, good professors, they go above and beyond for their students, and they have good connections with choc st Joseph’s and many other hospitals. Alumni who came of out the program said they made the money back just fine. With all that being said I think people just hate it for the tuition but its a great university and im sure youll like it ! ?

Hi, West Coast is one of the options I want to look into. Did you have any prerequisite courses and did they transfer with no problems? Im taking anatomy & physio but I think it won't transfer since they might require anatomy and physiology separately. How soon did you apply before getting accepted? Sorry for the questions! I'm looking for BSN programs in California. ADN programs are definitely just as competitive as BSN programs.
