Hi. I am a nurse from saudi arabia and i just passed and interview from st. James and st. Vincent's hospital in dublin. Just want to ask if anyone knows about the two hospitals, workloads, which one is better with regards to benefits ,salary, administration? Replies would be greatly appreciated. Thank u..

Hi everyone, is it better to be a nurse in Ireland or in UK? Thank you

Specializes in ICU, Med-Surg, Float.

Pay is better in ireland. Autonomy, career progression and nurse:patient ratio are better in uk. But they are very similar! I would decide where you want to live based on location, facilities etc rather than which country is better to work in!

Hi ms, chernt, I am also from Saudi Arabia and I have an application in St. Vincent Hospital in Dublin. I just had an interview from one of the agent of the recruitment agency based in Ireland and didn't take my employer's interview yet, because I am still waiting for my IELTs result. Actually, I am hesitant to continue my application directly to the agency in Ireland because I am thinking of ways how to process my application. If you don't mind , may i know how did you apply in Ireland? Did you consult any recruitment agencies? Thank you

I applied on my own,. First I submitted my application to get registration as a Registered General Nurse. Then the Nursing Board deemed it necessary that I required a period of Adaptation. This was difficult to arrange on my own, however I am a highly qualified Nurse so it was easy to get interviews. A Dublin ospital hired me and arranged my 6 week Adaptation. I was paid the student rate. Once I was signed off as completing the Adaptation, I was then granted my PIN and able to practice as a RGN.

Note: I also applied for my working Visa on my I own through the Irish Embassy.

Whats the step by step process to get a job in Ireland as a US nurse? Do I interview for a job first or apply for a visa first? How does it work? Thanks!

Before you can apply for a visa you need to get Irish nurse registration - NMBI.ie. I would advise you to find an agency who will both process your visa and help you find a job, but you will need to be registered as a nurse first! HTH [emoji3]

thank you irishcugal. i am a cardiac nurse. In St. Vincent's I was told that they do not have cardiac surgeries, but in St. james they have.. personally, I now opt for non-surgical patient care and would grab the opportunity of any non-clinical nursing area is offered to me.. the thought of career change is also not far away. Although, cardiac nursing is still my first love..:-)

Hello Chern88!

Just for your information, another hospital in Dublin is specializing in cardio-thoracic surgeries, including Heart and Lung transplants and spine surgeries as well. Mater Misericordiae University Hospital is one of the "BIG 5" DATH hospitals (Mater Misericordiae, Beaumont, Adelaide, St.Vincent's,St James). St. Vincent's specializes more on Liver transplants, Beaumont on cerebral surgeries, ER at St. James is one of the finest, and Adelaide is more on Pedia. You may visit their respective websites for additional information. Hope this helps. =)
