Hi all,
I just recently passed my NCLEX (2 days ago), as I verify my RN license online at TEXAS BON website. I was surprised that my licensed was soon to expire. Most of my friends don't have this problem !!! What should I do ? Here is what i seee on the BON website
"Texas Initial Licensure Date:
2/5/2009
Licensure Status:
CURRENT - 10/31/2009"
Btw, i was born on 1985 !
Your license expires the last day of the month of your birthday, the year based on whether you were born on an odd year or an even year. The board will not grant any licenses longer than two years, therefore your first license can be quite a bit short depending on when you graduate. Once you renew, you'll be on the two year schedule.
Yes, this is the case in TX. Don't do any CE's until you renew because they won't count.
so you're saying if I just got my license and it says it expires 9/30/10, I shouldn't do CE's during this time that I have my license?? I will be able to renew it without CEs??(I'm in CA by the way)
I don't know about CA, but in TX you don't need CEs for the first renewal and any you do prior to the renewal don't count.
In Alabama the LPN's renew on Odd numbered years and the RN's on Even years... I was licensed on 12/31/08.. Lucky me:bowingpur so I get the full 2 years out of my License.. but for the LPN's that tested the same day theirs is only good for 1 year. Guess I picked the right year to finish school. :lol2:LOL:D

Don't do any CE's. The first time around, the CA BON takes into account all the nursing classes you did when you earned your degree. You check a box stating you just graduated and then you turn in your renewal form with your fees.
After 9/30/10, then you can earn CEU's for the next 2 year period. Otherwise, any CEU's you earn before 9/30/10 don't really count. This is for California only. I don't know about the other states.
Congrats on becoming a RN!

California is based on the month following your birthday. My birthday is in october, so it expires the last day of november.
