Hello
I will soon be starting semester number 1 of my full time LPN Program, I am very excited, anxious, and nervous about this.
I just wondered if some of you out there who are now past your first semester can fill me in on kind of what to expect as far as check off's go, I am being told by many that the first semester is pretty much basic stuff like bedmaking, transferring, ect. I have been a CNA for 8 years now, so I am pretty sure in skills such as those mentioned above I pretty much now by heart.
But what other things, skills do they usually have first semester students doing? I am kind of nervous bout the catheter and sterile dressing type stuff.
Thanks for the information

hi,
I'm also going into the lpn program but not until the spring..fall classes were already full, but acording to some of the people I know and my class listing that i got already, you will learn a and p , diatary, i think geratrics is usually the first clinical which is good for you.. you learn the bed making the diffrent lifts, the bed side rules, grooming and bathing etc. also ( the thing im worried about) the dosage calculations, also medical terminology and basic nursing including all the malpractice stuff.. I keep bugging everyone I know about what to expect so i can prepair alittle before I actually go. I was in a rn program about ten years ago. but i never finished and that was a little more spread out.. I am extremly nervous about how quick we will be expected to learn each thing like the a&p just that alone is so much to learn.oh well i am glad i found this web site. I know I'll be asking alot of questions!

i have no idea what your instructors have in mind for you. however, i do have two links that you might like to check out. the first will take you to a page of a community college nursing program's skills' page. it has more links to all kinds of basic nursing procedures. now, some of them won't be things that you will be doing in your lpn course, but a few are. the second link is a list of videos of nursing procedures. i have seen a few of these. they are done by nursing instructors under simulated patient conditions and i thought they were quite good.
