St Pauls School of Nursing 2010 Acceptance

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hey, has anyone else received an acceptance letter for the spring 2010 semester? :D

From what I have heard, the reason they have such a high passing rate is because the teachers basically give you the answers. They also change the tests when too many of the people in class aren't passing. Wouldn't you want your classes to be challenging? What are you actually learning?

I graduated from The University of Colorado-Denver and am currently working in Long Island. When I graduated, we had to work hard for our grades, they weren't handed to us.

That's inconsequential you should know yourself passing in class is meaningless if you do bot retain the knowledge to pass your NCLEX. Otherwise you would be left with a meaningless degree with no liscense.

I disagree with Maryellis.

I'm a student there and although I'm not satisfied with the school, I can first handedly tell you that this is NOT the case. Our exams are ALL NCLEX based which makes it very challenging. At times we argue with our professors because certain questions may sometimes contradict what the NCLEX has taught us to prioritze. These are the types of issues that can happen at any school. My primary complaint with SPSON is disorganization as they throw us last minute changes in schedule all the time.

I have a BS in Nutrition from NYU and still find nursing school at SPSON to be VERY challengning. However, I study around the clock and have excelled. If answers were simply given to students, how would they become well trained and prepared to take a national certification exam where answers couldn't simply be "given".

This is so good to hear, thanks. It feels as if people are only assuming what SP is all about just from doing research or something.

Is there anything you can let me know about this place, cause their ws is pretty useless as far as information goes. :crying2:

Just adding a note to DoGoodThenGo. Winthrop hospital do hire you no matter what school you graduated from. The importance is that you pass your nclex and you have your RN license. As of now they are not taking anyone with an associate degree unless your are enroll in school for your bachelor degree. I know someone who just got hired with an associate degree and is enrolled in a bachelor program.

Anyone going to the eveining program in staten island and taking public transportation

That is why people pay over $400 after graduating to kaplan and take the course to pass the nclex. While you are in school, they should teach you content and what is needed to become a great nurse like st. vincent's used too. You need to gain the knowledge not just to pass the test. That is where the problem lays.

Hi everyone,

I just received my application packet to SPSON and just want to make sure I'm prepared when I'm called for what ever I have to face. How soon do you get a call back after they receive your application and what is the first step? How soon do they have you take the pre-entrance exam and the 12 minute exam? What does the 12 minute exam consist of?

Are you graduates and when did you graduate; also, are you working as a RN now?

Thank you all in advance!!!

If you click on that link, they are in candidacy status which means once the meet the standards they have to fulfill then they will be nln accredited. I live in georgia and many schools started off being not nln accredited but after 1 or 2 classes of students graduated then they gained accreditation.

Another link going further into the definition of what candidacy status means.

You should really do your HW when considering any school, especially SPSON. The administration and faculty change the rules as they please and are the most disorganized staff I have ever seen. They routinely lose transcripts, medical records - without explanation or apology. They are more concerned with wearing a uniform than providing a uniformed approach to their program. They, by the way, are NOT an accredited school and are currently in "candidancy status" who knows how long that takes! I cant imagine a governing board granting them accredidation because they are so unorganized. And be forwarned of them enticing you with a medical assistant program for approx $25K! Plus their tuition is through the roof - currently ~$600 plus per credit!!! They must think they are Columbia. There are plenty of options out there to get your degree from an accredited institution that you can graduate from. Buyer BEWARE!

I am surprised that they have candidacy. I complained about unwritten policies, not crediting my account overcharging, doublecharging, not showing me my test, I was a 3.95 student and after started complaining then I started failing. I wanted to see my quiz and test they did not show them to me. I also complained about unequipped lab and telling me that they were nln accredited and showing me plaque on wall in lobby.
