I'm getting ready to take my 1st nursing exam next wednesday and I'm really nervous. The instructor said our tests would be the kind where you have to pick the best "right" answer. Well, I'm never taken an exam like this and I'm almost freaking out.
It's over the history of nursing, the professional roles of a nurse, ethics and values, and communication. Any advice would be appreciated!!
Thanks in advance.
My teacher told us today that you should read the question and see what it's asking first and think of an answer you think would be correct BEFORE you even look at the given answers. Then, see if the one you thought of is listed. Never second-guess yourself. (I have in the past and suffered poor grades because of it!) My first test is Monday and I have to go out of town this weekend because my sister is getting married! At least you'll get alot of time to study!!! Good luck!
The advice above is great, but there's one more thing.....LEAVE that eraser at HOME!!!! We tend to second guess ourselves alot. On my first test, i changed two answers from right to wrong (ended up making a 94, but could have made a 98). When you're trying to keep a test avg of 78 and higher, you can't afford to do that.
And remember - good grades are nice to get (i've always been an a student, until now), but don't let it get to you if you make a b or a c. nursing school is a whole different ball game. boy i miss those knowledge tests :)
If you haven't already gotten the "you are smarter than you think" book - get it now - i loved it. it really has helped me.
Dont freak out. Its not as bad as you think, I had my first test monday. And made a 90. Its not as hard as everyone says. I think second year students get a kick out of jerking our chain. All of the second year students I talked to said that almost everyone will fail the first test. Our class average was like a 80 for 100 studenst. which I thought was really good.

Nursebucky,
I think I would have challenged that question too. Especially as much as nursing schools mention Maslow's. There were ?s like that on our test today as well....
