St. Luke's School of Nursing

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hello! I just got into St. Luke's in Bethlehem and I was wondering if anyone has been in, or knows anything about the program. I'm pretty excited, just looking for some info if anyone has any.. I just hope it's better than RACC's program, that's where I'm coming from, and it was a big dissapointment :/

Specializes in LDRP.

Congrats! I graduated in Aug 2012, it is a great program. Be prepared to study hard and have no social life, especially your first two semesters. If I remember correctly it is 2 hours of lecture 3 days a week for nursing 1, 4 hours (!) of lecture for pharmacology one day a week (thats 6 hours of lecture in one day, wooo), and two days of clinical (usually Monday and Wednesday from 0645-1500). So most of the time you will be there 5 days a week. Every once in a while they will give you a Friday off from lecture, usually before a big test so you can study.

Instead of clinical, for the first few weeks, you will have skills labs to learn assessments, bed baths, transferring patients, etc. Then you will have a couple days at different facilities with different instructors (Allentown and Bethlehem for sure, possibly Quakertown and Anderson) and you will be assigned one patient with one to two other students to practice talking to patients, bathing, getting vitals. Finally, you will be assigned your clinical group on the unit you will have clinicals on for the rest of the semester. They try to place you according to where you live. I did most of my clinicals at Allentown (and I work there now, so if you get Allentown, you might see me! ;))

The instructors are great, don't be afraid to ask for help, they want you to succeed! Go to tutoring sessions and try to form a study group with classmates!

After your first semester, if you feel like you can manage having a job while doing the program, I highly suggest applying for per diem PCA jobs within the network. It will really help you with time management and there will be a high chance that you will get hired as an RN after graduation. A lot of my classmates, me included, did this. Do it early so you can really get to know the people on your unit.

Good luck, if you have any specific questions, I will try to answer!

I really appreciate you for answering my question. Do you have a facebook? I would like to add you as a friend just in case i have more questions. Did you get your bsn yet?

where do you work now?

where do you work now?

Hi, I was wondering was the interview like? I have one Tuesday and I'm super nervous

Hello, I am curious to know what was on the critical thinking test? There is no study guide.

I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks

Hi! I was just wondering if you got a letter/email when you didn't get in the first round? I'm still anxciouslg waiting to hear back and I'm not sure if this means I didn't get in or not. Thank you!

Hello, Ashley. I was accepted into St lukes this week and start the summer 2020 graduate program January 2nd, 2019. What can I expect from this program? In your opinion, what's a good amount of hours to work while attending this program? After graduation did you have an easy time becoming employed through st lukes? I was thinking after semester 1 applying to pca per diem.
