1st Job

Published

Hey everyone!

I hope my post will bring some encouragement/inspiration to someone..

Last week I had an interview and was offered the job the same day. My interview consisted of a one-on-one with the manager and then a panel with 3 of the nurses. Talk about nerve-racking. I felt very blessed to have gotten this job only 1 1/2 months after I had taken my boards considering its super hard for new grads to get a job right away.

Please don't give up. God knows the desires of your heart and will fulfill them according to His plan.

I volunteered at the hospital I work at and built relationships with the manager and staff of the unit. When I applied for a position I saw on the website I let the manager know and she spoke to the hiring manager of the unit I applied for. This helped a lot too & I encourage everyone to do that if you aren't volunteering already.

Apply to everywhere you can..

Also, its the beginning of the year still.. I'm sure there will be more openings.

I'm praying for everyone who doesn't have a job to get one soon.

I start on monday so I would appreciate the prayers! :) Good luck my fellow nurses. :redpinkhe

At the risk of being censored or slammed I must state these stories are exciting to read for many entering the work force however are not the norm. Most new grads and experienced nurses pound the pavement for many months w/o success. the key in this story is (who you know) aka networking. After excepting a position 2000 miles away just to get back to work I always felt a BSN and critical care experience would be enough to get interviews and offers. I was dead wrong as the above poster proves. You just need to know people.

rntim49: yes! you're right. NETWORK NETWORK NETWORK!!!! They kept telling us that in nursing school over and over and over and I now understand how important it is!

So..network, people. :D Build relationships.

Congratulations on the job! I was just licensed on the 19th of January and got my first job offer yesterday. I feel very blessed as I know it isn't easy these days to find a job, and suprisingly enough I didn't know anyone who worked there. So, I am even more grateful!

Congrats and be the best nurse you can be, because you are truely blessed. As a new grad myself it seems impossible to find a job, especially in NYC.

Yes i do believe it is about who you know...and i don't know anybody! I want to go into the mental health field, i have been licensed for a month now...there are certificates to get like the crisis Intervention (i found a website that offers it but i don't know if it's a valid one) i'm hoping once i get this certificate, i will help my chances...

I have faith in God, i do know He has the perfect job for me...i will wait.

Prayers going your way for this monday!!!!!!!! Woohoo!!!!!

Nursein2011: Thank you! That's so awesome!! Congratulations! (:

shash010: Thank you! oh my, i'm sure! I really hope you find something soon. Keep staying positive and persistent.

danielalosey: have you tried volunteering at a mental health hospital/clinic? i've seen a couple openings on indeed for new grad openings in mental health hospitals. meanwhile, trying to get all your certificates is a great way to keep busy. Thank you so much for your prayers! I'm really excited/nervous. I'll keep you in my prayers too! Yes, (Jeremiah 29:11). ;)
