I had my first interview for a med surg job in a small community hospital last week....I am so hoping that I didn't blow it....This job is an absolute perfect fit for me..They were willing to interview a new grad, but I am also competing against experienced nurses...This is worse than waiting for my results from the state boards...The peer interview and the human resource interview went well...I just don't know how the interview with the nurse manager went...I have gone over her questions in my head a million times and am wishing that I could have a do over and respond differently...Please keep me in your prayers...I am almost 50 and don't know how much more of this job hunting I can do....and I thought nursing school was stressful....I have never felt more anxiety in my life and I've been around the block a few times...

Aw I know what you mean. One time in an interview I was asked what other jobs I had been applying to, and I said "um, this is the first one." (In truth, I had applied to 50 or more jobs). I thought he wanted to hear me say that I really wanted to work for him and no one else, so I said that I only applied to his job posting and no one else's. He replied, "hm, okay well I'm really looking for someone who has been interviewing for positions like mine for a while, it shows commitment to the field. Thanks for coming in though." UGH. It was probably a good thing, because he was SUCH a jerk.
I know what you mean about being in the job mill again. I'm 26 and most of my friends have been working at full time jobs for 4 years now. They are flourishing in their fields, and I have decided that I am going back for yet another degree (it'll be my third - first is a B.S. and second is a law degree that I am finishing up this May). Although I'm still in my 20's, I am under enormous familial pressure to get a job and forget about a nursing degree. I brought it up a few times now, and tonight my mom said "I don't think you want to get a nursing degree, but I guess you don't want my opinion." (Note the wording: she tells me that I don't want the degree, what she means is that SHE doesn't want me to get the degree.) Anyway, I just hope I can get hired after nursing school. People won't know what to make of my resume!
I'll keep you in my thoughts. Were her questions fair all in all?

lynnep...yes her questions were fair game...but never thought she would ask me a corporate question...i kindof wanted to bury that part of my life....please don't worry about what other people think...i was 45 when i went back to school...don't do what i did and stay in a job for half of your life just for a paycheck..the self fulfillment of one week in clinical can't even compare to years and years in business...i am routing for you...get some nursing assistant or extern experience if you can:nurse:
