Just wanted to start a thread for all of us with our fingers crossed for the Spring 2011 at SPC. :yeah:

Acclratedchick - I was able to retake some classes this semester to boost my GPA up to a 3.89. If that doesn't get me in for fall, I don't know what will! For spring I'm going to take nutrition and development of the life span - these are needed for USF's nursing program. I was an alternate for this coming spring, but I've resigned myself to the fact that if I haven't seen a packet by now, I'm not going to. I tried for EAYL for this fall semster, but didn't pass the cut. I won't do that process again, but it was an eyeopener for sure. I'm glad you made it in and wish you well!!

haimyem,

I was looking over this thread and wanted you to know that SPC will sometimes contact alternates at the last minute. I was an alternate for the fall program and got a phone call two days before the last orientation session. I would say if the last orientation session has passed than you may be looking at next fall but if not you could still get a call for the spring. Also regarding USF as I looked into their program as well.... Be aware that all pre-reqs needed to be completed prior to their application deadline. If you're taking classes in the Spring you won't make the summer application deadline because you won't have final grades. Also know that USF looks at a CUM GPA, not just pre-regs, this pass fall class had a 3.8 or better CUM. I took Nutrition at the Gibbs campus, it's a great class.

Good Luck and Happy Holidays.

Thanks for the info, dp133! I'm glad you informed me of USF's cum GPA instead of just pre-req GPA. It's amazing the competition for these nursing programs! I'm hopeful for SPC, but now I am willing to look "outside the box", per se, in order to attain my goal. How was your first semester at SPC?

Haimyem, Happy New Year. Yes, it's amazing and unfortunate how competitive these programs have become. You really shouldn't need to be a straight A student to become a nurse... Anyway, first semester at SPC isn't that bad and I'm looking forward to level II. Hopefully you'll start SPC in the spring but if have to wait until fall it's not the end of the world as it's just eight months.... BE PERSISTENT and you'll attain your goal of becoming a nurse. It's always good to look "outside the box", as there is more than one way to become a RN.

I am new to this site.... but i would like to say ... I am in!!! I just received my acceptance letter to spc yeeeeeehhhhh

Marita1998 - for which session? Spring session is already closed and fall session hasn't had their deadline yet. Just curious.

I am starting aug 2011 ... I just received my confirmation letter

Evening aug 2011... I applied in november...and just today.... I received my letter

Is that for the LPN transition program? The RN program deadline to apply is March 1st, and letters don't go out until April.

I applied in December.... I was told.... they were accepting apps for fall... since they had already chosen for spring last yr. I already submitted my intend letter.... and all I am waiting is my background check.

Can anyone give tips for the EAYL second interview or a general overview of what it is like?

AVM- I am in EAYL 3rd semester. I am assuming you made it through the first round...the second and final interview will be with the director (one on one interview). Tips: OBVIOUSLY don't be late! Dress appropriate! If you have any letters of recommendation, bring them. I had 2 (one from my previous boss and a doctor). She will ask those horrible interview questions like..."what are your best and worst qualities"..."why do you want to be a nurse"..."give me a time when you showed compassion towards another"...those kind of questions. I actually googled "tough interview questions and answers" and saw what others had said so it made it easier for me to think of something similar about myself. Nothing is worse then when you are at in interview and are asked a question and you sit there looking at the ski trying to think of an answer. My interview lasted around 20-25min. Be yourself and relax! Make it CLEAR to her that you want this more than anything and how much you want to help others!!! It was very hard to read her after the interview to see if she did or didn't like it. Everyone got that same feeling.

Hope this helps! Any other questions let me know :) Good luck!
