Spring 2019 Lone Star Hopefuls

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I've decided to make this page for anyone applying for the Spring 2019 ADN program at Lone Star CF/K. I'm so nervous and it's still kinda far away! Good luck!

Spoke with the nursing advisor at Lonestar Kingwood, and she told me that last spring their #1 student had something around a 7.8 and the #80 student had a 7.2 , so its very competitive. I'm sitting at a 7.36, I'm hoping that will get me in.

How do you figure out your score?

I got my hep b series off of Rayford at family express clinic. You can do a fast track heb b series and it takes 4 weeks total. I got my heb b series as a child so I didn't even bother to get the titer before I got them again because I'm 30 now...so I figured I might as well just redo them. I have insurance, but that clinic does not take ins....so each shot is $25 (cheap in my opinion) and then you have to pay for the titer after you are finished... and they have the results within 2 days. Idk how long you have to wait after the last shot to have the titer done so if I were you I would start now with the fast track. They just got a new express clinic just like the one off of Rayford right at 59 and the grand parkway! Don't know where you live but I love those fast clinics!

Hey do you mind telling me the name of the clinic. I tried looking it up but nothing was coming up

How do you figure out your score?

Your score is based on a scale from 0-8. It comes from your cumulative HESI score, your A&P 1 or A&P 2 GPA (whichever is the highest), and your ENGL 1301 GPA. The first part of your score is the average GPA or your ENGL and A&P GPA. So for example if you have A's (4.0) in both A&P1 and ENGL that would give you a score of 4. Then the second part of your score is based on your cumulative HESI score, divided by 25. So, if you scored a 95 on the HESI, divide that by 25, and that's 3.8. Add the GPA and HESI score together and that gives you 7.8 as your total score.

Example:

A&P 1 (3.0 B)

ENGL (4.0 A)

Average of A&P and ENGL = (3.5)

HESI (85) / 25 = (3.4)

3.4 + 3.5 = 6.9 Score

Has anyone taken professor heather clesi at tomball for pharmacology in the summer?

Hey guys!

If anyone that got into Kingwood ADN is still active on here, would you mind sharing what the first year was like? class times? are you able to switch to a different location after the first semester? any advantages of day vs night classes? I know the schedules and class times change but I'm curious to know estimated time frames incase I get in this coming application period! Thank you so much!

I would just like to give encouragement to the students who feel they are not going to ever get into nursing school. I got into one a bsn program this past spring and am now entering my second semester. 3 more to go! Good Luck to all!

Hey! Im in the ADN program at kingwood. Morning classes are weds and Thursday 9:30-11:50 and either weds or thurs afternoon you will have a skills class...and Mon tues fri or sat you will have a clinical day from 6:30AM-4:30PM ...you get to put in a request for the day you want for clinical and they really try to get that day for you

I can’t really speak for night classes ... I liked having days because I have kids! I know the night classes are the same days but idk the exact times! Not sure about switching programs after the first semester ... haven’t heard of anyone doing that

FIrst semester was pretty great. Now that we are on summer break, i’m Honestly ready to go back and get back into the swing of things. The spring 2019 semester group has lecture on Wednesday and Thursday. There is a day lecture (9:30am-11:20) and night lecture (5:00pm-7:15) I signed up for night lecture. I like it because it’s a smaller group of people (about 30 and 50ish In the morning ?). I live in cypress and it’s about a 50 minute drive for me so I prefer to avoid morning traffic. I think an advantage of having night class is that you have all day to study for exams before having them and the night class is more chill than the day class. And we have 1 skills lab day either Wednesday or Thursday. I signed up for skills lab for the afternoon at 3 on Wednesday.Skills lab is only and hour and a half. There are 4 Clinical days but you’re only assigned 1 day with your assigned group (Monday, Tuesday,Friday, or Saturday). Clinical is from 6:30 am-4:30 am. You can ONLY miss 1 day out the entire semester b/c you have to have a certain amount of clinical hours to pass. I’m not sure about the whole switching of campuses during the program, I doubt thought because some campuses are on a block curriculum and some are on a intergrated curriculum. But you’ll love king wood so much. The professors are AMAZING! There are few people who were in Cyfair’s program and they shared their experiences there with me and there were nothing but bad comments about the program and he professors itself.

What E said!! Kingwood is awesome! All of the professors help you as much as they can. My clinicals are in Sat from 6:30am-4:30pm.

Hey! What were some kind of experiences that CyFair's students shared with you? I'm starting at cyfair in august and just wanted a heads up so I'm prepared! Thank you!

Hello ! I am playing to apply for the fall of 2020! Crazy ! I live 5 min from CyFair ! I was thinking it would be my first choice ! Do you think guys I should better try Montgomery? Or Kingwood ? Instead ? Are these programs better ?? Hello

I absolutely love our Kingwood group!! I don’t really know much about Tomball, but I heard Cy-fair was crazy difficult. Choose wisely because your commute does matter! I drove an hour last semester but It wasn’t bad at all. We have students commuting all the way to Kingwood from Rosenberg and Pearland ?
