Are you also an alternate for the ADN program? I honesty thought those score would have made it in. If I'm not selected I plan on applying to the LVN program at Cyfair. I might have to retake my HESI

Both. ADN Kingwood and LVN Tomball

Hello everyone!

My name is Rebecca and I am currently enrolled in my last semester of the ADN program at Lone Star Kingwood. If ya'll have any questions, let me know! I will try to answer the best I can. I know how tough/nerve wrecking this whole process is, but never loose hope! Wish ya'll the best! :)

Thank you so much, Rebecca, for joining our discussion!!! I have always wondered how to get in contact with those who are currently in the program to hear about their experience, would you mind telling us how your experience has been so far in the program? How does the scheduling work is it Monday-Friday? Are you able to work a part time job? Are the directors nice? How was your overall experience and do you have any advice for us?

Thank you again!!!

Also, what stethoscope have you used that you like?

Hello!

Its my pleasure to be able to help. I remember when I was applying and had so many questions!

To answer your questions, I will be speaking from my experience at Lone star Kingwood, every campus will be different.

Let me tell you that my experience has been the best here! As you may know our campus was flooded during hurricane Harvey, so we only attended Kingwood campus for our first semester. However, our nursing director and professors did so much to find us a new place where we could have class and simulation. Thankfully, Lone Star at North Harris allowed us to borrow a a big lecture room on their campus at night. It was tough at first, because I used to have morning class, but everyone now had to attend night class. There was no other option. However, it all worked out at the end. Now here I am fixing to graduate this December! I am really thankful for our professors because they did an amazing job at helping us transition. They are absolutely amazing and truly care about your success. They are always there to help you. We have become big happy family since we have been through so much! :) I believe Kingwood Campus will be available in January again, so you guys will be able to attend the Kingwood Campus. It's really nice by the way!

As for schedule, I have class Wednesday's and Thursday's from 5pm to 7:30pm. When I had morning class my first semester it was from 8am to 10:30am. The first two semesters you will have lab in which you will learn all the skills (Foley, NG tube, IV's, Trach care, etc) after class. Lab is usually two hours. You will have Clinical once a week from the days you are not in class. Clinical is from 6:30am to 5pm. We have done our clinical rotations at Memorial Hermann Northeast and Kingwood hospital. This is what our schedule has been like, but it might change for you guys.

Many of us work part time while in school, so it's not impossible. However, everyone is different. Some had to leave their job to focus on school because they were struggling, and others have managed school, work, and family just fine. My advice is to try it out and see if you can handle it, and accommodate based on your needs. Nursing school can be very overwhelming and stressful, so you really have to find a way to keep yourself sane.

As for advice, just do your best! It will not be easy, but I promise you it's totally worth it! Managing your time will be hard at first, so keeping yourself organized is a must. Find what type of learner you are and use that to your advantage. Tests will be a little different from what you are used to, they are more critical thinking based, so getting used to these types of questions can be difficult at first. I recommend taking practice questions after you have studied the material, it will let you know if you truly know it. There will be tests that you wont do so great on, but never let that discourage you. Let it motivate it you to do better the next time! I promise you will learn so much! It has been one of the hardest things I have done, but also one of the most rewarding

If you have anymore questions let me know!

I have the 3M Littman Classic III. It works perfect for clinical purposes.

I'm interested in your job search and if and professors are helping you with this. Also, I have heard that some employers will interview you and hire you conditionally pending your NCLEX results. Do you have any information on this?
