Spring 2013 - 11 hours and work full-time!!

Published

I'll be taking A&P1, Micro and growth & development this Spring. I work full-time but these classes are repeats of ones I took a couple hundred years ago when they still used oil lamps in the classroom. I joke but it feels like that. I'm an empty nester and I work in a low stress job with some time for studying so I think I'll be okay. But don't be surprised if I'm on here typing messages as best I can with all the clumps of my hair in my hands!

I'm planning on spending the next two months doing as much as I can to get my house and life in order so that I can just concentrate on work and school. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Would it be possible for you to take A&P I and Micro in different semesters? I only ask because I have a friend who is taking both at the same time and it is really wearing out her brain. If you are an empty-nester, then you probably have more life experience than my young friend (who is just out of HS), so it probably won't be so hard for you, but just a thought...

I understand the need to get pre-reqs done quickly, though, too!

I have friend who have repeated multiple difficult classes like sciences in the same semester. I think it is totally doable, unless you have a learning disability or some other complication.

I'm taking Micro, Chem, and Nutrition right now and working full time. I also work full time (three 12-hour shifts) in a hospital doing registration in the ER. I usually don't have time for much school work so I spend my one and only day that I have nothing scheduled, Sunday, catching up. It's intense, for sure, but doable.

Thanks for the comments. I have a biology undergrad degree and took all the prerequisites years ago. Although I got A's (B in general chem), I have to repeat because they were taken more than 10 years ago. I've always been a good student and am organized (too organized, some say...but what do they know). I've been to school in the interim, getting my paralegal certification, so I'm not intimidated by studying. But it's been a long time since I took a heavy load and worked full-time. I think I'll be fine so long as I remain focused and organized.

Some of these classes might be offered on line

Yes, I'm going to try and take the Human Growth & Development and statistics classes online. I have psych classes but not one that spans child to adult, like I need. I still have to find out if my old statistics class will need to be repeated. But the science classes have to be taken in class. A&P will be a MW class from 6-9 p.m. and Micro will be an all day Saturday class. So I'll still have 5 nights a week and Sunday for studying, chores and something of a social life.
