Spring Arbor?

U.S.A. Michigan

Has anyone ever attended this school for grad school? I am not finding out a lot of info regarding their grad school although I know several who attended for their BSN. Specifically their Adult Primary NP program?

Thank you all so much for sharing! I am set up to begin the March residency, and I am getting really excited but even more nervous. I am waiting to hear from University of Cincinnati for a May start. It seems like the Cincinnati program is more impersonal, but it is more traditional in that it is full-time 2 years and there are fewer courses (humanities, as well I don't have to retake a higher-level statistics like I would at Spring Arbor). Spring Arbor just feels more comfortable, and I like the idea of the residencies, plus how kind everyone I've dealt with has been. Cincinnati is definitely distant and purely professional in their style, so I am leaning toward Spring Arbor.

I have been accepted to the FNP program and start soon. Are you still satisfied with the program? Do you have any recommendations for new students entering the program? I found the application process straightforward and everyone I have spoken with so far has been very professional. I was not able to attend the orientation and haven't met any students or instructors.

I was slightly frustrated with the capstone class but I enjoyed all the other classes. The capstone was recently changed around and it felt like we were the first semester in the new set up.

How do you like it so far? I've been accepted, to start in October.

I like it so far for the most part. Some things that are frustrating but it is that way with all programs. I am paying someone to find my first few preceptors because I know I cannot do primarily ER and my other people backed out. It saves me the hassle and it still puts cost lower than a few other programs. The service lined up a primary care and an ob/gyn for me.

I don't like the need for polio titers or shot records. I don't have mine anymore and I came back not immune to one polio titer.

I'm considering the adult-gero NP program at Spring Arbor and was wondering if anyone can provide feedback on the program. Looks like the last post is over a year old.

I also was considering their Family NP program and was looking for more information on the school and programs at Spring Arbor.

Hello...just looking at this old post as I'm considering SAU. Did you ever actually attend? If so how do you like it so far?

  • Just graduated, would not recommend the program. This is based on my personal experience only. This began at residency, one year into the program, when I was told I could not do clinical hours in my state, due to not having clinical instructors licensed by my home state. This has happened in four other states as well, that I am aware of.

There have been many, many issues in the previous 6-8 months for my cohort and the one before me. Due to clinical audits not being efficiently done during the program, several students were made to complete additional clinical hours at the end, and some had to find new preceptors or wait for openings with their previous preceptors. I was one of those students who was delayed. I took boards and was successful prior to completing clinical hours, only to think I was finished and had to complete more clinical hours after some of mine were zeroed out by the nursing office.

There is open hostility from the nursing office, and clinical instructors are not monitored closely enough in my opinion. Students are able to double up clinical hours, but many are refused as their preceptor paperwork was held up in the nursing office so long, the double request was denied due to not having an "approved" preceptor.

Many students lost preceptors due to the delay of the nursing office, or had to sit out and wait for an opening as the available date passed by without approved paperwork.

Emails to the nursing office often go without a return response, phone calls are not returned either.

As for the passing rate, that is due to each student cramming for the board exams, not due to the content taught in the program. We are expert level APA writers, but the content is not addressed as closely. Personally, I had several instructors who were not NP's or never worked as an NP due to their choice or circumstance.
