Sponsored and misreable

Published

Sorry I'm going to vent so be aware. Also, I want to get your feedback and suggestions. I am a foreign new grad RN working in nyc. My hospital sponsored me for green card back in august 2005. I received my ead and ssn in october and started work in december. I've had a crazy orientation, no permanent perceptor for 1 month and finally a month of orientation. Ive been officially off orientation for a week now and am so misreable. Not because I'm working on my own, but I'm finally feeling the pressure and the heavy workload. My unit is a spine/ortho floor. I get on average 6 pts on days, but I just couldnt cope with the demanding pts, the bs that goes on mostly w/ the PA's, and the personalities on the floor. I dont get much help/support from colleagues. My manager and clinical coordinator are both bungholes for lack of a better word. NA's are laughing at my mistakes, some even yelling at me. I am often called slow and laughed at. I've already had one error and not sure yet of the consequences. I cant see myself working there for another 6 months. I feel like I want to transfer to nights or to another floor but I dont know how to approach my manager who is barely approachable. My other option is just to leave the entire place. But I probably cant do that because I will mess up my petition. I feel corned with no way out and nobody to talk to. Any suggestions or comments?

i just think that my focus right now should be to do my job right, being that this is my first nursing job. i know i will have to work on being assertive one day. but being new to a job and having to deal with these people can be too much to handle, especially to a new grad. its not easy to be assertive when ur new to a place and a new rn.

i am also a foreign graduate nurse who just moved here in the states and was placed in the Emergency room department to tell you i am going through the same experience as yours, different preceptors everyday in my orientation and it was only 3 weeks of orientation for me it was hard, and until now i still have my bad days though people that i work with right now look at me in a different perspective than before. you are still in the adjustment period like me though on your part early adjustment period. The one thing that i keep on telling myself that this too shall pass, and it sure will. one more tip work on your pace since you are new you are expected to ask a lot of questions and slow at work just always make sure that you are doing the right thing. right now the people that i work with are much more friendlier and helpful than they are to me before.

Hi,

I will be in a similar position soon. I am graduating in May 2006 and looking for hospitals that would sponsor my Greencard in New Jersey, New York metropolitan area. Which hospital do you work at, if you don't mind sharing? I know that Color Goldwater sponsors. Do you know any other hospitals in the area that sponsor? I am also considering getting sponsored by an agency that would place me long-term with a 2 year contract at a university hospital. The agency told me that the orientation will be 2-3 weeks, so I already asked them if I could get a longer orientation and a higher salary than what the agencies that sponsor give you... The CEO of the agency is going to talk to the people at the hospital do find out. Still waiting to hear for the response.

Any tips and advice, anyone?

There are hospitals that will sponsor, and please, please, do not even consider going with anything else at this point.

You need a proper orientation, and two weeks or something similar just is not effective. I do not care what anyone tells you. Or you can lose your license much faster than the time that it took for you to get it.

It doesn't matter where you went to school, or how much schooling that you have had, nursing school does not prepare you for the real world. Simple as that.

hello suzanne and everybody.

Does anyone know of any hospital in pennsylvania or around that sponsors?. am getting frustrated and the only people ready to sponsor are the agencies.

From what i have heard on this forum ,i dont want to get myself into it but now its like there are no options.

please i need your advice. what about firms that recruit for hospitals? are they also like the agencies? pls pls help. thanx

You need to make sure that the firm or agency, is paid 100% by the facility and nothing is coming from your check. The more legit are. There are some agencies that are double dipping now, charging the facility, as well as taking money from the nurse's check and this is not acceptable.
