Hello, everybody!
I'm a registered nurse from Lithuania, and just two months ago I got my RN license in America. It's very happy event in my life :balloons:
Now I live in Wisconsin, but I'm looking for job in Chicago area. I have a lot of friends there and it's a great city!
I had few interviews already in Chicago hospitals, but they don't sponsor for green card. Do anybody knows any hospitals, that can sponsor nurses for green card.
Thank you very much for your help!
Sincerely,
suzanne4, RN

First of all, where did you get your license? Which state? Did you take the CGFNS exam? If you got licensed in Wisconsin, and did not take CGFNS exam, you cannot work in Chicago. Illinois requires that you take CGFNS exam if you do not have two years of current work experience in the US as a REgnstered Nurse.
What type of visa are you currently on?

Which part of Illinois are you interested in? What is your specialty? Do you want a big hospital or small? Teaching or not? etc, etc. etc..............
You can send me your resume if you like.............
Do you have a Visa Screen Certificate yet? You will need it to submit a change in status when you get petitioned. I would make sure that you apply for that as soon as possible if you do not already have it, as it will take at least four months or so to get it. Have you also taken TSE?

I want to work in big teaching hospital in Chicago area. I worked as RN in Lithuania for 3 years in MICU. I applied for Visa Screen and now working on TSE.
You can figure on four months from the time that you take and pass TSE for you to receive your Visa Screen Certificate. You need to have this to actually file for a change in status. I suggest that you get the exam done as soon as possible.
It shouldn't be any problem getting you a position there, you just need the exam, and send me a copy of a resume when you get a chance.

It's ok, first i have to find employer, because the procedure can last from 6 to 12 months. To apply for GC, I don't need to have Visa Screen.

I am sure Suzanne will correct me if I am wrong but I though every health professional applying for GC needs visa screen
This fryday I have the meeting with my lawyer, and I will ask him about it. I just know that you need to get Visa Screen until INS will approve petition.
They changed it about 2 yers ago.
Yes you do, because you would be applying for a change in status since you are already in the US, and your H1-B will be expiring. With the Visa Screen Certificate in hand, you can get an EAD that will allow you to start working in 90 days. So you need to be working on this right now.
Remember, you are already in the US, if you were not in the US, then you just need the Visa Screen Certificate when you go for your Embassy inteview.
You need to work on getting your VSC as soon as possible.
Yes, you are correct. The only difference is when it is needed. If you are out of the country and applying for the green card, then it is just needed when you have your interview at the US Embassy. If you are already in the US and will be filing for a Change in Status, then it must be submitted with the petition, or they will not do anything with the file.
