how to split taking pre-reqs

Published

Will it work against me if I take my 6 prerequisites for nursing program as 3 this fall and 3 next spring if the deadline for application is Jan 15? The program says they have to be completed by the end of spring semester and that if you're taking classes in the spring, give us your schedule. The problem is that they will not see spring grades until May.

Now I am taking A&P I, Statistics, Developmental Psych.

In the spring I want to take A&P II, Ethics, Nutrition

Specializes in Med-Surg/DOU/Ortho/Onc/Rehab/ER/.

My school is the same way...you can't apply unless your are DONE with ALL pre-reqs...you may just have to do what I am going to do and apply the following semester & take that semester off then the next semester you get into nursing school...

its sucks but I bet its worth it!

My school you need to be done with prereqs or "in progress", so they do offer admission when you are not "done", but they can also relinquish the offer based on your grades. My school admits students solely according to GPA, though.

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

I think your prereq schedule is very doable. Glad to see you don't have more than one science in each semester, that for most people is the kiss of death. I don't consider nutrition a science for purposes of prereqs. The class is cake as far as I am concerned, but if it's anything like mine was, be prepared for some busywork. Easy and interesting stuff tho. Don't you need microbiology? Or did you take that already?

In my school they said you have to finish in the spring before you start in the fall. They said they have to see most pre-req grades so I think just 3 classes will not harm my chances, will it? I mean if I get all As this semester there is no way I can flunk (ie get a C) in any of my other classes in the spring.

I am doing accelerated program and have B.S. in Bio so I hope seeing a schedule full of science classes and most As and few Bs for my degree will show the admissions that I am a great candidate. I took micro with my bio degree, so yep don't need to worry about that.
