Southwestern College ADN Fall 2018 Cohort

Published

I just wanted to start a topic for this upcoming Southwestern ADN cohort (Fall 2018)! What are everyone's stats? (GPA, Teas, etc). I'm also applying at San Diego City, Palomar College, Grossmont and National University.

Wow I feel blessed

Congrats to everyone who was accepted! And stay positive to the alternates.

I hope to see you all around campus :)

Did anyone call to ask if they received your confirmation email?

Here is what I have gathered from my friend who is currently in the program: There were 230 applicants, 60 selected with a 75 cutoff (meaning plus up to 15 alternates).

Unfortunately for us alternates we have no idea where on the list we fall.

Let's continue to keep each other updated :)

Thanks for the research! I know I wish we could find out where we are on the waitlist.. all we can do as of now is just hope that some of the choosen got their top picks for school and decline their seat and pray for us alternates to get in! Fingers crossed for all of us! :) :) :)

Yes we just need 15 to decline...any takers!? In all seriousness, we all are so passionate about this, and that is what will make us great nurses :) We will all get there eventually!

In response to calling, I have not. I assumed since nobody had, this was normal. I do keep checking my sent mail to make sure it was sent!

For those of you that did not get in the program or asked to be an alternate...don't give up! I have had so many obstacles on this journey, and a few times I did almost give up. If I do not get in this cohort I will be crushed, but I will not stop because nursing is my passion. Someday we will be able to look back at this stressful and nerve racking time of our lives and have many stories to tellí ½í¸

I'm bummed, because I was denied but this is my first time applying to the nursing program. Congratulations for everyone who was accepted, if you guys don't mind offering any advice on how to improve my application for second time come around. I already have a plan to retake my tea test, but should I retake any generals to increase my chances. I got an A in anatomy and a B in both micro and physio, as well as B's in everything except pysc 101 which is a C, I know it's bad took it in high school. But if you guys could offer advice, I would appreciate it thank you! Congrats again (:

If you don't already have your CNA license, I would definitely suggest getting it for the next application period! Its worth many points on your app. Also maybe take a language course over the summer? It may only count for 1 extra pt but every point counts! Points are also awarded for having a degree, even an associates, so thats something to look into as well. A side note: SWC application is by far the most extensive application I had, meaning they require a lot of information and documents, so I would for sure quadruple check to make sure you have EVERYTHING they asked for on their check list. Keep your positive spirit and you will absolutely make it in!!

Like bk8889 stated, an Associates Degree adds 5 points to your application. Also, a CNA license is basically mandatory since it's worth 25 points. You should qualify for an Associates of Arts with an emphasis in math and science since you are pursuing a nursing degree. A classmate and I both received an associates and were accepted into the program.

Also, talk to a counselor and see if they'll accept a higher grade if you retake that Psychology class.

Lol I keep checking to make sure that it was sent!

I have both my CNA license as well as my associates in prep of allied health programs. But, for sure i will take a Spanish course as well as a sociology course this upcoming summer so I can apply to different schools, so I'm not only relying on one school. Thank you guys for the advice!

I was planning on retaking my TEAS as well, and as an alternate, I am still not guaranteed a spot, so if I don't get in I will be retaking my TEAS over the summer. I had a 79.3 and at SWC you just need to get 85 and above to achieve the max points in that area.

But I thought swc only accepts the first test taken? I know grossmont allows two attempts
