Southwestern College ADN Fall 2018 Cohort

Published

I just wanted to start a topic for this upcoming Southwestern ADN cohort (Fall 2018)! What are everyone's stats? (GPA, Teas, etc). I'm also applying at San Diego City, Palomar College, Grossmont and National University.

Do they send the acceptance letters to lvn applicants first then to the regular adn applicants?

And do guys know anything about the nursing program at southwestern? There is a person who sent a long comment about how bad sd city nursing was for her that she had to quit. Well, according to her 8 people already quit from the program.

Well I work with two nurses at my work and they graduated from there and loved the program. And they also liked that the pass rate to pass the class was lower than Swc and grossmont.. so I guess it depends on the student and how they managed their work studies.

Also! My friend and I had our coworker call to see the status of the application (lol). I guess she said the lady told her that they aren't even done reviewing applications.. and that it's a long process.. and to give them about two more weeks. I'm not sure if they're just saying thay so ppl stop calling and give them time.

UGHHHHHHH THE STRUGGLE!!

Omg two more weeks thats crazy! Maybe they are lying or maybe they had a lot more applicants this year and they need more time. Who knows but im so anxious!

I don't know if my information is right, but when I asked the lady when we would hear back she told me until April. Maybe she just said it so we would call

hi @Jmc1592 ! The program is extremely demanding at Palomar College. I really think that the first semester was more challenging and they definitely try to filter people out. We lost 5 people I think first semester, but second semester we are definitely not going to lose anyone as our class are doing better with tests. First semester you go to school Monday(7am-3pm) Tuesday (7am-2pm) and Wednesday/Thursday (7am-12pm) the first 5 weeks. Then starting week 6 you go Monday(7am-3pm) Tuesday(7am-2pm) and then one day clinical which is 6am-4pm (So you only go to school 3 days a week after week 5). You have 5 tests, and you must pass 3/5 with a 70% on the exams (40 NCLEX style questions). You must pass all 5 skills test (Ambulation/Transfer bed to wheelchair, Vital signs, Oral meds, Insulin/SubQ injection, and Head to Toe/charting). The first 5 weeks are what they call "Hell weeks" because literally you have to read everyday and study everyday or else you'll be behind. I wanted to quit everyday the first five weeks and questioned if this was for me. But stick through it and hopefully you'll be fine! Good luck!!

Hi jac, do you know how many spots are being filled in your evening/weekend class? What are the hours?

Still haven't heard back

Question: how many of you followed the direction on that sheet they had us sign? It said to take immunization forms 1-7 and date it 09.20.17? They handed the form in the mist of everyone gathered in that office and I skipped that part. :nailbiting:

When i went the first time to turn in my application, the lady said to make sure my immunization forms were up to date (09/20) bc apparently i had printed out the out of date ones which were (04/13). And they will not take your application if you had the out of date ones. So i had to go back to my doctor so she could refill the papers on the right up to date forms. The struggle was real lol.

I did my titers, physical, and etc. before the 9/17. The lady who looked at all my paperwork told me to just print out the 1st page with the new date and she accepted the forms with the older dates. She also said that it will not be our fault since they did not inform the applicants to use the new forms.

Wow! Thanks for the info @thatperson! That was really helpful! I hope I'm lucky enough to get accepted for fall! Good luck to you with the rest of the program, sounds like you are doing great!

Omg! Thank you for letting me know. I was seriously stressing in the middle of the night!

Thank you. I think they're doing a few changes this application period due to the new director.
