Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I want to start nursing school as soon as possible but the way it is set up I will have to take three classes in six weeks in order to have them done by the time to apply for the program start in Jan. 2011 (it is now Feb. 2010) I can't start taking classes until the summer because i missed the boat for January because my mind was made up to do LPN but none of the LPN schools would take me and it just doesn't fit my schedule really.

On with the problem, If I take math for liberal arts 2, human development, and intro to nursing for six weeks starting May and ending in June I can apply in July to start in Jan 2011 but if I spread them out I can start in Aug 2011 it just seems so far away. :uhoh3:

Any advise anyone that has taken these classes can all three be done at the same time and pass I want a really good grade I would also have to work full-time and I am a wife and mother to four kids :argue:

Or any advise on what to do with my time while I wait I feel like i have waited so long already I am 26 and will probably be about 30 when I'm done and my oldest child will be 12 or 13 I feel like I've wasted so much time but want to do whats best

I will be taking them at Polk State College please help me can it be done in six weeks and be successful or should I take math for six weeks the first half of summer and development the second half and intro to nursing in August for sixteen weeks please help i am ready

I'm almost in the same boat as you, as far as my waiting time and feeling like i have wasted time. I am 28 now, and have been going back and forth with my major and only being able to go to school part time has forced me to be in school even longer. Now that I know for sure that I want a nursing degree, i have to be put on a waitlist at my school because so many people want the same thing. I know this doesnt help or give you any advice. Just know that you are not alone and there are other people out there in similar situations!

It does help to know that everyone didn't come out of high school and know exactly what they want to do and do it It seems that way when i watch others getting done but if you let them tell there story it wasn't easy for them either

There's too many variables out there for me to give you any accurate advice...are these classes available in the online forum through your school? If so then it is definitely doable if you are willing to put in the effort. If they are not available online how would that interfere with your work? I have 3 children so I understand the workload involved, my children are now in bed by 730 so that mommy can study, so all in my household have been affected by my decision to go back to school, however; they will all reap the rewards too. Liberal arts and intro to nursing are super simple classes (at my school anyhow) so the only tough one may be Human Development (are you talking a biology class here or psychology??) Anyway, I definitely think its doable as I took 10 credit hours during last summer myself, A&P II, Developmental Psych, and Nutrition. If I can do it.....anyone can!! lol. Good luck!!

Hello there!! I am also in the same sort of situation. I just got accepted to my program, set to start fall 2010. I also have a family which I must consider through this whole process.

I want to get as many classes out of the way before I start in the fall. The way I have it set up now, I will only have to take the nursing classes. That means, this summer I will be taking Intro to nursing, a&p 1, and developmental psych all during the first session and then a&p II the second summer session.

This is not going to be easy, but the dev psych is online, which eases up the load a lil.

Like the other person said, if you can take something online, do it. This way you can do the class when it is convenient for you.

All I know is that this is something that I really want. I am so determined to do this. My family knows this as well, and is being very supportive. It is not going to be easy by any means, but I know I can do it. And if this is something you really want then go for it!! You can do it!

The math is available online but I need to take developmaent in the first six weeks and it is not but i went to the school and they have it available March 3 thru May 5 so i will only have to do two in the first six weeks of summer I am thinking i can do the two

You can do it!!

August 2011 is NOT that far away. Considering you have 4 kids & the classes are only a few weeks long, I don't think it's a good idea to take all the classes in one go. Remember, it's not just about taking the classes... it's about getting A's in those classes. Remember QUALITY over QUANTITY. I know you want to hurry up and get them out of the way, but if something comes up or you have an emergency and miss an assignment, you could put your entire nursing school plans in jeopardy.

YES to the advice for online classes, though!!

Honestly, I'll be 30 next month and I'm not technically in nursing school yet. So I feel your pain. It DOES seem like an eternity away. It's closer than you think. You want to be SANE and READY for nursing school. If you overload on classes before nursing school, you also risk getting burned out before you even start.

GOOD LUCK! Trust your instincts and have faith in yourself!

You can do it, 2 over the summer will be busy but definitely easier than 3!! Good luck! Let us know what you decide to do!

I'm a LPN in the Transition program at PSC, so I didn't have to take Intro to Nursing, but I've heard from the paramedics that the 16 week class is horribly drawn out and boring. Take the 6 week class if you can and don't forget it includes clinicals.
