Something thats bothering me tonight

Has anyone ever felt like this? I think that I am doing really well at my new job that I started about a month ago, in fact I know that I am doing well. Everything that needs to be done gets done and I make sure of it, even though I am still kind of learning the ropes. I am (was) happy there, but today some one said that I "need alot of improvement.":angryfire I just really really feel frusterated right now. Like I don't want to go back to the job that I have wanted for 4 years now. (Even though I will:uhoh21: ). Any words of wisdom?

Thanks

Hang in there, youve been there a month. What do they expect? I wouldnt expect someone who had only been there a month to be even ready to be on their own.

If someone had the nerve to even say that they probly need to take a good look in the mirror because more than likely they dont really measure up to any task they are given either. And they probly have been there long enough they should be fully competent.

Dont give them much thought. You do the best you can and know it gets better with some more experience. Just dont be afraid to ask questions whenever in doubt.

So one person thinks you need improvement...we all can use a little improvement. Maybe even explore the idea a little bit about how could you improve your skills but unless the person making the comment was a boss or instructor I wouldn't take it any more serious than that. One thing I did when I started in nursing was to pick one of the older nurses as a mentor and even though she didn't know it I would learn and try just by watching her ..even still now 20 years later there are people that I rely on and trust and still learn from. Nursing is one field where you don't get alot of praise and hardly a thank you especially from the ones you work with. You will have to develop a hard shell.

Many times I have found that when someone is very adept at finding fault w/ others, they fail to look in the mirror. I am sure there are things you can improve on, but don't sweat it too much. This person may have a case of sour grapes or chronic pessimism.

Thanks. You made me feel better already.

I do need to develop a harder shell. I should not have let today get to me, but I did. Your words of encouragement will make going back tomorrow easier.

Thanks again.

Whoever said that to you was in effect "pointing" their finger at you saying you need improvement.

But you know what they say about people who point their finger at others...when they point their finger at other people, they have 3 fingers pointing right back at themselves.

Ask them in what areas you need improvement and then tell them you look forward to them showing you the ropes.

Unless you think they are just being an idiot and then just ignore it

Yup.

Next time someone says that, shoot back a big happy grin and say, "I've been here a whole month already, and you mean I don't know it all yet? Thanks for the no-Duh! :smackingf comment, but of course, if you have any REAL suggestions on how to improve, I'm happy to hear them."
