someone pls tell me what to do

hello everyone, I'm scheduled to take my cpne in oct (in utica), was scheduled to take the EC workshop next month, here in phoenix. Find out today not enough people so they cancelled it, now what? can you pass the cpne without the workshop? If I had cancelled they would of charged me 270$, what do I get? So now I'm stuck, do I pay even more money to go out of state for the workshop? I'm afraid to use EC because if I pay for airlines/hotel in another state and they cancel again, I'm screwed out of more money. Any advice would be greatly appreciated:bow::bow:

The CPNE can easily be done without a workshop. I attended the EC workshop in Albany prior to my CPNE. I really learned nothing new. You can set up practice stations at home and get the same thing. My friend and I both thought it was doable without the workshop. If you practice lab stations at home using their skills bag, and know all your critical elements, then you should do fine.

thanks pedinurse, i already have a "patient" on my pool table, the wound and all suppiles needed for the sim lab, rob's dvd and have worked in the hospital x13 years, so maybe i will be ok without the workshop, do you recommend the online careplan class offered?

The thing I gained from the workshop was what they want in documentation and care planning. I didn't practice labs at all because that stuff I knew.

That said, had I to do it over I would have done Tina's or Robs'. The Excelsior workshop is crammed full of people and was, IMO, a lot of money for not enough 1 to 1 attention. And I was misled - I was told they had a much lower enrollment cut-off than they actually did.

I did the Chancelors workshop, limited to 6 people for 5 days, only thing is it is only in Racine Wisconsin. I would do it again however. Good luck to you.

I haven't taken my CPNE yet- don't even have a date! However, I can say that EC does offer a documentation and careplan class that you can take whenever- have you looked into that?. I believe it's only a week long and reasonably priced.

I would do what ever it takes to take a workshop. Yes, you can pass without it, and yes, taking it does not guarantee success, but consider some of the less obvious benefits. I found that by taking the workshop I accomplished several things. It was nice to be able to ask actual graders questions. It was great to be able to see the stations and demonstrations.

Having said that, what benefited me the most was two things. First, being there with other students: actual people with names and faces. It was very motivating. Second, because of all the previous reasons I found myself more at ease which made me more comfortable both during my studies for the CPNE and actually taking it. This was key, because as my stress was decreased my ability to learn my critical elements and retain them (and recall them when needed!) were increased.

Again, just my opinion, but I just feel that every little bit counts, and if you are at all financially able to go you should consider all the benefits.
