Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am a pre-nurseing student, and my grades are not that great. ( ok, i got c's in a&p 1 and 2, plus a c in chem.) But I really don't want to change my major because thats what I want to do. I really want to be a nurse, I will be transferring to a four year in the fall, and i was wondering should I take over my A&P's or just hope and pray????

]The question is: why are you thinking on taking these classes over? Is it because the school you're applying for requires a higher level of accomplishment on these classes in particular? Is it to increase your GPA? I'm aware that some institutions require a minimum of 2.5 GPA, which means that you have to have some classes with a passing grade of B. If all of your classes taken so far, the passing grade is C, then your GPA is 2.0, therefore you'll need to take a higher biology, not re-take the same classes because you have already passed, [and because you don't have a "incomplete" (D), or a failling grade(F) on them]. Now consider the following: have you finished with all of your pre-nursing credits? If you haven't, working towards an A or B on those classes will surely increase your GPA. If you already have all of it done, taking advance credits (higher math, higher chemistry, or any selective that will transfer to the school you're intersted on) will help also to increase your GPA . My last question: have you check on the school you are interested on for the admission requirements? And most importantly, turn that frown into a smile! :)

I would take them all again. It will be much easier the second time and you should be able to ace all 3 of them.

At my school (very competitive), you would never accepted with a C on any 1 of those three classes.

Good luck

B's could even be a potential problem and repeat courses are frowned upon at the nursing program at my college :o

It's very competitive where I am also. GPA not less than 3.6....you have to worry to get in even if you have A's.

Well, you might think about retaking those classes but what you should do is really look at what you really want to do. Sure grades aren't critical and that's not bad, but no one can argue that grades aren't a good indication of how you will be doing in your other classes. Nursing classes don't get easier and if your starting out with C's in your prereq's, what are your core classes going to be like and do youwant to struggle through 2 more years and still not make it? Is there something else going on at this time of your life that is holding you back?

It looks like you stll have ChemII,Micro and depending on what school you are trying to apply to you still might need patho. If you get all A's and take addition Prenursing reqs such as Algebra and/or Stats you could possibly get a 3.0? I suggest you first go and talk to guidance counselor about map out all of your possiblities and they can tell you definately if you need to take the classes over or not. I personally had A A&PI, C APII, A Micro, B Chem I and I just got accepted into Nursing School. When I met the advisor she said that they do not recommed you taking classes over because there is still a chance with the other classes that they require and each school has a different way of evaulating. In worse case scenerio take them over but keep in mind some schools do not have a forgiveness system where they will replace your grade with the highest grade. Some schools average the two grades out and you currently have a C and make A then you grade will then be a B or they will calculate that C and A in your attempted hours which is not always good. Don't give up anything is possible I am truely an example of that. I wish you well on your future endeavors. JUST TAKE ONE DAY AT A TIME

Check to see if you can take your ACT's again. I had to do that because my GPA was low as well. The college I'm applying to has a point system, which I was dissapointed to find out, which includes GPA, ACT scores, and any college degree or hours.
