SoCal Registered Nurse ADN Starting Rate

Hi all. I'd like to know if there are any RNs here with an ADN-level education (only in SoCal!) and working. If so, what was your starting rate wage for just being an ADN RN? And is it lesser than the BSN-level? Also, is it difficult to find work with just an ADN degree?

I have heard differing ranges on wages here, but you can bet on 25 and hour plus.

On your question about is it hard for an ADN nurse to find a job...absolutely NOT.

25 per hour?! Is that the starting wage? Or just a point of increase after several years of working? Or is it really an RN's starting rate ('cause that is huge!).

don't forget that the living here is very expensive. 25/hr. is not huge.

First of all ... southern california is a huge region so, you've got to be more specific as far as which area you're interested in. Are we talking about LA, San Diego, Orange County, Inland Empire ... etc. because pay varies widely even with a half hour drive.

I'm in the Inland Empire ... new grad pay typically ranges from $23 an hour to $30 an hour with an average of $26 an hour. Usually, the closer in you are to more populated "metro" areas like Riverside, the higher the pay. Kaiser does pay $2 an hour more for BSN's but they are the only hospital that I know of that does this. Their pay is the highest at $30 an hour. The farther out you go ... like out to the desert ... then, pay can drop to $23 an hour.

This is why you really can't generalize because SoCal is very big and pay, even by region, can vary widely.

There is absolutely no difficulty finding work. Just about very hospital within an hour drive takes our ADN program's graduating class out to lunch to pitch working for them.

Oh wow. Uh yes, currently I'm in the Inland Empire too! So you say that for new grads in the Inland Empire, they get paid $23, or $26-$30, right? I'm guessing the $23 starting rate goes to the ADN level RNs, yes? Oh and what school did you go to for getting your RN degree? Do you think Mt. San Jacinto (Menifee) is a good one?

It makes no difference as to the type of degree that you get. You all get to write RN after you pass the Board, and without any experience, you start at the same rate.

There may be a difference of $0.25 per hour for the BSN, max that I have heard of was $1. But remember that you are all starting in the same boat.

Whether ADN, BSN, or even Diploma.......same salary for doing the same work.
